Social tagging for cultural heritage collections

http://web.nmc.org/files/sia/steve-logo.png

Steve is a collaboration of museum professionals and others who believe that social tagging may provide profound new ways to describe and access collections and encourage visitor engagement with museum objects. Our activities include researching social tagging and museum collections; developing open source software tools for tagging collections and managing tags; and engaging in discussion and outreach with members of the cultural heritage community who are interested in implementing social tagging for their own collections. To learn more about the project, visit our public website at http://www.steve.museum.

This site's wiki provides technical, administrative, and API documentation for the steve tagger 1.0 software, as well as end user documentation for Steve Central, the hosted version of the steve tagger (http://tagger.steve.museum).

Code available for download includes:

Steve Tagger Alpha, released 2009-11

The 1.0 release of the software is expected to be released in fall of 2011.

A previous version of the steve tagger software, released 2008-05, now deprecated, can be seen at http://sourceforge.net/projects/steve-museum/
