//Is this a bug or a support request?
Bug
//What's going wrong?
1) Configure K9 -> 2) Enjoyably use for 1-2 weeks -> 3) Pick up tablet at random -> 4) Open K9 -> 5)K9 asks me to configure my initial email account. All settings are gone ->
Repeat 1-5.
I've been using K9 for about 4 months, and I've had to reconfigure it about 7 times.
It randomly just loses my email accounts and my settings, and I have to take 30 minutes or so every couple of weeks to set everything back up.
//Have you looked for another ticket that might already be about your bug? If not, visit http://code.google.com/p/k9mail/issues/searchtips before submitting this bug report.//
Yes, got yelled at, was told that bug was FIXED, and was told to come here and prove that the issue still existed.
Please just take my word for it as you can't handle the proof.
That was a joke.
A bad one, but a joke nonetheless.
//What steps will reproduce the problem?
Unfortunately, none. It occurs completely at random, with no error messages whatsoever.
//What do you expect to have happen?
My email.
>What do you see instead?
Not my email.
Instead, a completely reset K9.
>What version of K-9 are you using?
4.003
>Is your email account a POP account, Exchange Account or an IMAP >account?
3 personal IMAP account on my own server, 3 gmail accounts.
//In order for us to have a chance at helping you with a complex issue, we're going to need a debug log from your phone. You can dramatically increase the chances of a quick and successful resolution to this issue by following the directions at https://github.com/k9mail/k-9/wiki/LoggingErrors -- If you can't give us a trace, there's a pretty good chance that we won't be able to act on your bug report.//
Will try and will report back to this thread later.
//What else should we know?
I don't think this is a completely isolated issue as I've seen this issue cropping up in other forums. Perhaps it's a new Android bug ... not sure.
That being said, I can tell you that I use K9 on a 7" Samsung Galaxy Tablet running Android 2.3.4 on Kernel 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.EF17
The carrier is Sprint, and hardware version is P100.08
I also make a mean cup of coffee and I'm handsome as the devil. Just thought you should know.
Anyway, thanks for any help and please keep up the good work. It's an otherwise incredibly great app, and I don't mean that in an Eddie Haskell kind of way.

Posted on Jan 20, 2012 by Helpful MonkeyGiven that K-9 Mail has no self-destruct functionality, that could be accidentally triggered by a programming mistake, it is unlikely that this is a bug in the app itself.
Do you maybe press the "Clear data" button in Android's detail view for K-9 Mail under "Manage applications"? Do you have an app installed that "optimizes" your storage? Could it be that the Android version you're running is buggy and randomly loses app data? Is it an official firmware?
Btw. we recently added support for settings import/export. So recovering from a loss of all settings should be much easier now.

Posted on Jan 20, 2012 by Massive BearI will say that no other app loses data in this manner, and I'm fairly sure I don't hit the "clear data" button as the repercussions of this would be evident fairly immediately. It's also unlikely that I would have done it 7 times without noticing.
This is an official firmware, completely stock, unrooted Galaxy Tab. I have a lot of apps installed, but the utilitarian configuration I have is fairly vanilla and uninteresting. No task killers, no scanners, no data optimizers, etc.
It is still entirely possible that it's an Android bug.
The only thing that makes me think that it may not be Android, however, is that fact that this actually WAS a known bug in 2008, and the behavior is exactly the same.
I reference issue #143:
http://code.google.com/p/k9mail/issues/detail?id=143
^^^ This issue which was reported by someone else years ago, is the same issue I am having now.
Is it possible that this bug could have somehow found it's way back into the code base accidentally?
Anyway, it's all just a guess. I'll pull the log next time it happens and post it.
Thanks for the settings export feature, BTW. I just exported them. It will make restoration much easier. I appreciate it.

Posted on Jan 20, 2012 by Helpful MonkeyThe symptom may be the same, the bug most certainly isn't. K-9 Mail's code was changed to work around what seems to have been a bug in Android. Settings are now stored in a SQLite database that should at least report an error if data was lost due to corruption.

Posted on Feb 4, 2012 by Helpful Elephant- phone: HTC Desire
- Android 2.3.3
- CyanogenMod 7.0.3-Desire
- kernel 2.6.37.4
- enough memory because I partitioned the SD-card
- k-9 mail version: 4.005
- no task-killer, no memory optimizer, no hitting the "clear data" button in the android settings
I just rebooted my phone and k-9 mail lost all accounts/settings (3 x IMAP).
Im using k-9 mail since about 1 year now. I always update if an update is available. This is the first time Im having this bug.

Posted on Feb 22, 2012 by Swift CamelSame problem here. Not exactly sure when the settings dropped as I pick up and read IMAP e-mails on my PC as well. Just one 1 IMAP account configured in K9.
Android 2.3.3

Posted on Apr 19, 2012 by Grumpy WombatI've upgraded my Galaxy S2 from stock Gingerbread to stock ICS (4.0.3). Due to nasty bug in ICS email client (downloads all emails for all checks!), I've started to use K9. But, in two days usage, I've lost my settings 3 times. Plus I can't import my exported settings (which was already reported in another ticket).
