jellytime - issue #223

GpsLocationProvider seems to be dead

Posted on Nov 13, 2012 by Grumpy Giraffe

What steps will reproduce the problem? prepare the device: wipe, clean install jellytimeR28, install google apps

  1. install any app which uses the gps location provider (I used "gps status & toolbox")
  2. set your location settings to gps only.
  3. open the any gps using app (I used "gps status & toolbox")
  4. nothing happens: on blinking gps icon in the statusbar no gps fix.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I would expect that the gps icon in the status bar would come up and that the/any app could receive data fom the gps location provider - instead: how to stay specific... nothing happens and by nothing I mean no laction where found.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? jellytime R28 on a htc desire hd

Please provide any additional information below.

I added to images with the logcat output on shows the output on an sock dhd with htc's android 2.3 and the other shows the logcat output on and dhd jellytime R28 both screenshots are with the same limitations(searched for "gps"). As you can see they are very different! But it is exactly the same version of the app.

PS: yes I did reboot the device and I also Played with the settings, but nothing changes...

SOLVED; As per my comment above I was having this issue. I was running baseband 12.56.60.25U_26.10.03.03_M, no GPS with r28 (also no GPS with PACman 18). Updated to baseband 12.69.60.29_26.17.14.11_M and I now have GPS under r28.

BE CAREFUL!! MD5 checksum, ensure radio file you have is the correct one for your phone.

I can confirm the above link worked for me - UK Desire HD on Three network, purchased feb 2011. However I'm told it's vital to get the right radio for your device and that devices vary between territories and carriers. Don't just use this link blindly. If in doubt, get over to XDA and ASK!!

Same problem here. (htc DHD, R30, Three). I'm not able to update baseband.

Will R31 fix GPS?

I would add quiet important information about updating radio - it did not work for me also (showed installation aborted message) - you cannot update this in recovery mode, but you have to go to bootloader and update it from there, than it works fine. Anyway - radio update did not solve my issue with GPS on R30 - I also tried AGPS fix, and it did not help either. I cannot fix my gps at all. Btw. I did clean update of JellyTime R30 (not dirty one).

I fixed my gps by testing my gps on a stock rom. Before installing the stock rom I did a backup of r30 in ext4 recovery. Afterwards I did a wipe on the stock rom and restored the r30 backup. This strangely enough solved the gps issue for me. Before this I did not see the gps icon in the notif bar and now I do

OK - my GPS is working fine now in R30. I fixed it following these steps: Installed radio metioned above in Bootloader and than: - Boot into recovery - wipe data/factory reset - wipe cache partition - wipe dalvik - wipe batstats - Format system, data, boot. - Install ROM+ gapps - Reboot into recovery, go to advance and fix permissions Done - GPS working like a charm :)

Just a quick note with thanks, this worked for me too. I only did the install through bootloader part.

Jellytime 4.2.1 Release 4 first ROM install (on stock Dutch Desire HD), first had to downgrade stock install in aahk installation, GPS not working at all, installed radio, first GPS fix took 3 minutes but now seems completely okay.

Had a similar problem after upgrading to CM4.2.2 JT. (No gps icon in bar at all. Radio is a 12.65.xx or sth. Coldn't flash due to s-on). Here, #25's comment helped a lot. Restored stock rom, got a gps fix, re-restored cm42, wiped cache and suddenly got a gps fix here either. '+1', 'thumbs up' and 'like' to #25.

I had upgraded to Jellytime 4.2.2 R42 from Android 2.2 and lost GPS completly.

As per #30

I updated to Radio 12.69.60.29_26.17.14.11_M via the bootloader ( renamed zip file to PD98IMG.zip and boot into bootloader )

GPS then worked after a few minutes.

I did not wipe the data and reinstall as per #27

Thanks to everyone.
