Same problem here. After a while the WiFi icons become grey and I can't use the connection even if it appears to be connected. The only way to solve this is to turn the WiFi off and back on again (airplane mode works too)
da...@gmail.com <da...@gmail.com> #12
Same problem here too. I had no WiFi issues with ICS and could use WiFi on my balcony. I barely can now. If I leave the phone sleeping for a few minutes and then unlock it WiFi is dead and I have so switch it off and then back on again for it to start working as before. ICS WiFi connections were way more reliable. I have no idea what's causing this and thought I was the only one at first before I saw this.

This is a real issue. I got my phone a few days ago and while I was on ICS for a few hours before updating to JB, the wifi connection was much more stable than JB. Rather wierd. Here's a thread that references back to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769908
Sitting next to the router (literally 5 feet) and I get not more than 3 bars, that too gray! Bring back ICS wifi goodness please.

WiFi will connect then drop while saying its still connected. Very frustrating.
no...@gmail.com <no...@gmail.com> #18
I am having the exact same issue, I had never encountered WiFi problems when I used to run ICS. After I updated to JB, my connection would drop very frequently. I found and disabled the advanced setting to avoid poor connections, it dropped slightly less frequently but still very often. Most of the time my WiFi notificafion bar shows blue bars as though it is connected to the network fine, but it will have no internet access - cant load web pages in the browser, load the Google Play Store, or send messages on my Whatsapp messenger or Hookt. This is very frustrating and definitely a huge turnoff for Jelly Bean.

I can see the Wifi strength is good. but when I try click connect...it just shows the connection as saved, and a notification for "Wi-Fi networks available", pops up.

I face the same issue and try this solution and find it better.
First for WIFI go to setting>wifi>advance > Wifi frequency band >2.4 GHZ only (may be 5 GHZ only should work too but I have no router to try.
The signal change from 1 bar to almost Full. This location about 5 meter in front of router. All device I had try show full. For this solution it almost fix but not 100% but it better than do nothing.

The wifi range does not seem to be the problem. But as soon as the phone goes into "sleep" mode the phone loses connection. Sometimes i have to turn off wifi and then turn it on again to reestablish connection. sometimes it will connect automatically.
the option "keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is on "always" and "avoid poor connections" is deactivated.
i did't have these problems with ICS 4.0.4

How to fix wifi:
Be sure you are connected to your wifi router/ap and follow this steps:
1- Go to System settings

Using a static IP doesn't solve the problem. I always use a static IP when I'm home. To be honest I solved the problem flashing a custom made kernel.
pr...@gmail.com <pr...@gmail.com> #37
Agree, static IP doesn't solve the problem. It's a shame, we have to look for custom kernel to solve the issue, the whole purpose of getting this phone is getting updates directly from Google. BTW, which custom kernel did you flash.
wa...@gmail.com <wa...@gmail.com> #38
My solution is for wifi become grey when the phone was idle for a while.
br...@gmail.com <br...@gmail.com> #39
Yep - static IP not solving it for me either. I am having the same issues on the Wi-Fi network at work that is using a Linksys E3200 router (problem occurs at both 2.4 and 5 GHz).
ma...@gmail.com <ma...@gmail.com> #40
@praveen using franco's now, but it's too early to see if it's working correctly. I agree it's a shame that we have to use custom kernel, but it's the only way, at least until the stock get fixed.

I had the same issue here at my office using 3 different CISCO routeurs as wifi bridge with 3 different Name (i.e. routeur1, routeur2 etc). WHen I checked on the ipconfig of my laptop connected to the same routeur as my Nexus S, I remarked that I have two two different gateway visible there 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1. My nexus s was connected using dhcp on the 192.168.1.1 and now I pass it to static IP using the 192.168.0.1 and it works fine. Before I was always able to connect to my routeur but I had no internet connection (gray icon). So I guess the mapping is not correctly done on Jelly Bean (4.1.1)

I am starting to beleive that this is in connection with my issue.
Testing it for more than 3 night now it turned out that my phone is kept awake for too long during night if its connected (ornot???) to a wifi network.
With wifi connected it loses 31% of battery in 7 hours and it is shown in the battery graph that something keeps waking up my phone in every 2-3 minutes... could this be the wifi itself, triying to connect each time?
With only 3G enabled during the night, and having all the syncs enabled it only consumes 3-4%. Thats just to big difference to reject.
What do you think?

I thought I was having this problem ( comment #2 ) but after quite a bit of testing, I'm not blaming Jelly Bean anymore. I conducted signal strength vs. Download / Upload speed for the following devices:
Nexus 7 Jelly Bean JRO03D
Galaxy Nexus GSM Jelly Bean JRO03C
TMobile HTC One S ICS 4.0.3
Galaxy Nexus GSM ICS 4.0.4 (separate unit from Samsung ordered under warranty for this issue)
Samsung Vibrant ICS CM9
My conclusions:
1) I found no quantifiable difference in signal strength or wifi speed between ICS and JB on my GNex units (they both were terrible compared to the other devices). 2)There was no difference between how ICS and JB scale the bars in the notification area to the signal strength.
3)At low signal strength both GNex's would drop the connection and thespeedtest.net app would report a 'network error' within about 30sec of any lack in data sent or received. All other devices would just sit waiting for data to re-establish (I stopped the test on those after 2 minutes of lack of data)
4)The more modern HTC One S really kicks butt on upload speed (maybe higher power or better antenna?)
#3 may be why people are experiencing the grey'd out bars on their units.
For now I'm keeping the GNex cause I like the immediate updates to the lastest OS from Google. I guess I'm just going to have to blanket my house with high power wifi repeaters...

Not impressed with JB, supposed to be feature rich and optimized for Nexus, end result is terrible network connection and truly HORRIBLE battery life, same settings as I had on ICS, and went from zero network disconnects at home to pretty much any time I want to do something on the network it needs to be done with 5 minutes or connection is dropped and I have to start again, Priority should be High at least, this is a severe issue which is impacting my work as a network tech.

After some more testing, I don't seem to encounter this anymore. When I read someone fixed it by checking "Avoir poor connections" in the Wi-Fi Advanced settings, I checked it and it was working better right away. I just checked my settings again and the checkmark is now gone. I wouldn't know why though. Still no issues so far. Strange bug. I had the Wi-Fi issues only when the phone entered sleep mode. It would always disconnect while sleeping while I didn't have this issue with ICS. If I find something else I will report again.

Shame on you Google, this is a fundamental problem that existed since ICS for me and it's still not fixed. I know my GNexus is wrong because it never happened on my iPhone 3gs, which is supposed to be inferior.
Are you listening to us Google?
Remember, Google should fix this major bug even before we had to file a report, not the other way around. This is extremely disappointing.

Same issue here. have an Asus RT-N56U, and at 10 feet, it was complaining about poor conditions and refuses to connect. I thought it was the hardware again (this Nexus has been to the shop for a broken wifi antenna 10 days into use), so I flashed the device back to 4.0.4 factory image.

Constant WiFi drops and reconnects at low signal, and JB signal reports low anywhere beyond the same room as the router. So far behavior has been consistent both at home and with other access points. Problem seems to combine very limited range with poor handling of what JB perceives as marginal signal.

What is most disappointing about this issue is that there is no feedback from Google whatsoever. Surely they have a basic understanding of service management to know that the first thing you do is acknowledge that there is a problem and assure clients that you are looking at it. Even that is not happening.
BTW, the problem is not limited to Netgear routers, the N band, or one version of Android.

I think that the problem was there, where is the modem + router. Modem at me have IP 192.168.1.1 and router for wifi have IP 192.168.2.1
ICS 4.1 at me on advance option have default gateway 192.168.1.1, so look for DHCP IP higher 192.168.1.100>> but there is no responce (modem will not give the IP)
When i put static IP 192.168.1.110 (or somethink higher then 100)the default gatawey was change on 192.168.2.1 - that was the right! And wifi conection was start immediately.
Sorry for my english :)

I have tried all of the fixes on here, static IP, unchecking "avoid poor connections", etc., but it's not really a fix for the range issue. There's no reason for the device to only show half strength when you're only 10-15 feet from the router. I have contacted Google about this issue directly and the guy acted like this is not an issue he was aware of and offered to swap out the device. I don't want a refurbished phone for the brand new one I bought last week, especially when I know that won't fix the issue. I even sent him a link to this thread, asking him to raise the priority or forward this issue to someone who could look into it. All he did was offer a replacement. I expected more from a "pure Google experience" phone. I'll definitely wait it out, but I'm really waiting for Google to step it up here. I have seen Verizon users having to root their phones and patch the wifi with a file from the 4.0 system folder. We shouldn't have to resort to that.

Static IP address does seem to connect faster. Also unchecking the "avoid poor connections" does too help...

First: Sorry for the poor english, I´m from Sweden! :-))
Same problem here.
With ICS, no connect problem.
With upgrade to JB I can´t connect to an open Linksys.
At wi-fi settings I can see full signalbars for the Linksys, but on the statusdisplay there is nothing, no bars, no nothing except battery, 3G and time.
When connecting Linksys it switch over from connecting to "Saved" in Wi-Fi settings meny.
It can´t connect it, no matter what. Before upgrade it connected on auto without problem.
I have checked most tips above without result, it doesn´t help.
No point to have wi-fi if you have to be so close as 5m.

I usually reboot at which point it works perfectly for a while. Completely unaffected are the Galaxy Tab sitting next to it, my laptop, Roku, Wii, AppleTV, a Linux based HTPC etc. The only device with problems is the GNex. 4.1.1 was installed as a clean wipe and I do have settings to always keep wifi on and ignore poor reception.

I have the same issue but nearly as bad. I do have issues with the phone (maguro) dropping the connection to Google after a while when idle for a few minutes (when set to keep wifi on during sleep).
Could the issue be caused by the version mismatch between the broadcom kernel driver (currently 5.90.195.104) and the firmware blob fw_bcmdhd.bin (currently 5.90.195.61 Date: 2012-04-26)? Something could've happened in those roughly 4 months (the kernel drivers is from August). Before JB, the blob was always updated in sync with the kernel driver.

Same here with a Nexus 7 Tablet (never updated from previous version). Problem occurs with every single router I've been on so far. What happens very often is that the Nexus shows internet available with good strength (3 blue bars) but there is no connection. Chrome, play, facebook all give a connection error. Most of the times going to airplane mode and back works, not always though. Sometimes restarting helps or waiting some time works too.

same problem here. I bought two Nexus 7 and both devices could not live with Wifi without disconnecting every 10 minutes (saying "Obtaining IP address"). I also upgraded my Samsung Galaxy 2 from CM9 to CM10 (jellybean based) and stated to experience wifi connectivity problems.
"Static IP fix" works for me, but I could not be so confident in my wifi connection anymore - the signal drops from time to time even with "static ip fix".

basically you need to do two things:
1) change your router settings, so that android devices use static IP instead of getting it from DHCP. Usually this can be done by 'MAC address - IP address' association.
2) change it in your android device settings: long press on wifi connection -> modify network -> advanced -> enter static IP that you previously assign to android device in router's admin panel.
After making these changes I no longer see "Obtaining IP address" and wi-fi connection is more or less stable, although not as stable as it was on ICS on my galaxy-s2.
PS
It could be router specific issue. Mine is ASUS RT-N16. I did't have a chance to check it on different router.

I've reported the bug through the Google support link but it seems that Google engineers do not want to give any feedback. Bug resolution is supposed to be a two-way process; for all we know, Google engineers may have already fixed the bug in their internal builds, and we are just wasting our time uploading bug reports.
Has this issue been reproduced at Google? It is not difficult to reproduce, it happens every single day on my Nexus S - I wake up, turn off airplane mode, and the phone wifi fails to come back up. When I turn wifi/airplane mode off and on several times, it seems to crash the router's wifi (ethernet connected devices still work fine, but all wifi devices can no longer access the internet, and the router has to be hard reset.)
Given how easy it is to reproduce, I find it hard to believe that Google's engineers haven't reproduced these issues. Which means that either this bug is either not a priority and is not being actively investigated, or it has been reproduced but is difficult to fix (perhaps the bug is in the baseband firmware), or it has already been fixed but an OTA update has not been arranged yet. Or perhaps the issues are indeed rare, and only occur on a minority of OTA updated phones with certain configurations and Google has been unable to reproduce those conditions. Either way, it would be nice to have some feedback. I am going to have to buy a new wifi router for myself as it is unacceptable to keep crashing the shared router; this shouldn't be necessary.

I have found this problem will all the custom roms I've tried (I didn't wait long enough to see a stock jb on sprint). My problem has been as described with the wifi connection constantly dropping out...often, it seems right when I would try to load a webpage. The Codename ROM also had this problem, until a version they released recently; I believe 3.6.0 is where they greatly improved it (I'm struggling to remember a time, now, where it dropped the connection when I needed it). It has made a world-of-a-difference for me. It was so frustrating...now I've got to wait until other ROMs fix it too. Is it just a problem with custom ROMs...hence why Google hasn't done anything to help it?
Anyone else notice that codename "fixes" the issue, or am I a lucky anomaly?

I finally made the decision to go with a smart phone after years of having a basic cellphone. My Wife and I both received our new android smartphones about two weeks ago. Everything worked fine for a few days until one day we noticed that our phones would not connect to our wireless network. The phones see our network, passwords are correct, but it said our phones were OUT OF RANGE. I tried everything to get the phones to connect. Forgetting the network, reentering the network, driving out of range, turning off wireless on the phones, etc.
So I started to troubleshoot the problem. We have had our wireless router for over a year with no problems ever connecting to other devices. I brought out my laptop to see if I could connect, and guess what? My laptop saw the network but would not connect. Well time to reboot the router. I rebooted the router, and everything worked again, for about a week, and then my router crashed again.
This is becoming really frustrating. I either can not use wireless on my phone and rack up data usage or I have to keep rebooting my router for any of my home devices to work. I have talked to some other people who say they have similar problems.
Actually, Princeton University had almost the same problem and have reported it to Google.http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=11236 Google has yet to provide a fix. One work around is to have the setting for sleep with the WiFi set to never.
I just wish someone out there has an answer to this.
Thank you,
Jim

Sorry your first cellphone and Android experience is so bad. I've been using Google/Android for a few years now and and have an excellent experience with them ... up until now. I hope this issue doesn't put you (or, indeed, me) off Android.

I bought my google galaxy nexus when it just came out. There wasn't such a problem. I was satisfied. After updating to the latest Android OTA, now the wifi connection range really sucks. gm...@gmail.com <gm...@gmail.com> #159
To #157.
If you upgrade to CM10 (which is jellybean based) there is a good chance that your wifi signal becomes even weaker.
I personally had no issues with wifi on galaxy s2 CM9. The problem started after upgrading to jellybean.

I second the comment #153 : the problem remains after the update to 4.1.2. However, I cannot get what exactly triggers the "grey wifi" - sometimes a rather lengthy sleep mode still leaves the wifi intact while the other times the wife goes "grey" ("connected", but unusable) after a short "sleep".

Just want to echo what others have been saying.
I've had the Gnex since April. Initially it was great, and Wifi anyplace in my house was great.
After Jelly Bean I have weak wifi coverage. What used to be 4 bars can now be 1 or 2!
I have 4.1.2, that fixed nothing.
I chose the stock Android phone so that I would get fast reliable updates.
Maybe I need to rethink the iPhone 5.

Wi-fi are connected + Wi-Fi signal icon is blue (connected to Google services) but after 10min +- sometimes it goes to grey and stay only in local network without internet connection. Hello everybody
I have Galaxy Nexus with JB 4.1.1 (Baseband Version I9250XXLF1, Kernel Version 3.0.31 - g6fb96c9 android-build@vpbs1, Build Number JRO03c.I9250XWLH2) from stock
have the similar issues with WIFI, it goes gray sometimes and only that works for me is to set the different static address from the relevant range, as for the signal strength I think its poor indeed.
For additional information I am not doing anything to phone when WIFI goes gray just sometimes not being in a range from my home router does the grayout things.
I wonder mainly is it all the software problem or is it a device problem? as I see from the posts some say that ICS has no issues at all is it correct?
I also wonder if anyone who updated or will update to 4.2 share their investigations and experiences
thank you for your replies and feel free to contact me for any additional information

Yet another user her with the same issue. I have been a nexus owner since launch. Wifi is one of the few things I never had problems with. After JB I also started getting wifi drops and literally no signal or one bar when every other device in my house gets full bars no problem. It also drops out for no reason. I tested two different routers at home and two different locations. It seems to be a global wifi issue.

Hi, I followed the whole thread. I also had this annoying issue with this almost-U$S 400 smartphone.
My problem using Wifi, was the same as the described here, including the following weird case:
When showing all available WiFi, my preferred WLAN was shown as "not in range" for some time. But all other neighbors' WLAN's appeared as accessible.
Galaxy Nexus
Android 4.1.2
Baseband version: I9250XXLF1
Kernel 3.0.31-something
Build: JZO54K
First I tried disabling "Avoid poor connections" but it didn't work.
My AP was configured with security WPA TKIP.
I had problems.
Then I changed AP to WPA2 AES. Still problems.
After I changed security settings to WPA AES, my Nexus began to work well with WiFi.
I will keep looking at this and sniffing my WiFi to see if I find something else.

After changing the security settings, it worked OK for a while and then I had problems again. So, it seems the issue is not related to security settings.
I kept investigating and I found that I can ping from my nexus s to other devices in my WLAN and also from other devices to my nexus s. Also I can access my AP web page. However, I have problem accessing the web and android store. So I don't think it's related to dhcp because it gets an IP address without problem and layer 3 works alright. Also I sniffed my WLAN with airodump-ng and it showed the devices was associated and sometimes sending to AP and receiving (from AP) 802.11 data frames. Probably it is related to DNS acquisition?

Yesterday when I called Google they try to do some troubleshooting over the phone, but did not help much,so they offered me a replacement, which I did not want, since this is not gonna fix the problem.
The customer service reps were very, very nice though, but the run out of ideas.

Hello world,
I have a GNexus and I have the same problem with wifi signal on an Linksys E3200. After the update from 4.1.1 the problem remains. The connection has a 65Mbps link immediatly after connecting, but right away drops down to 5Mbps and become unuseful. I've tried another type of router, from Dlink825 with the same result. As I want to mention, I had no problems with other phones (LG with Android 2.3.4) in the same positions. At one moment I switched the router to the standard B/G only and I've got the result: the speeds are back again now, just try this until google finds a solution for this.
PS: from other posts from here, I also set the ip address manually.

I see that some HTC One S are affected after update. Bad thing is that even I try to downgrade, install another ROM or even another radio version or some other fixes -> No luck so far, problem persists. Wifi is acting abit differently depending on installed version. Same behavior already said here. Strange is that even I install 4.0.4, I can't get wifi fixed. Tried afterwards 4.0.3, 4.0.4, 4.1.1, 4.1.2.
Somehow I think problem is related to updated radio.img (v1.11) that came with JB. It could also act differently depending on area, EU or US. Could also be incompability between certain routers and client wifi. I see usually neighbouring routers but my Netgear keeps dropping wifi levels for HTC with JB, hence not negotiating connection. Any advice regarding Netgear (tried stock and open firmware) and JB? Ofcourse I could try to force below G/N-mode but I would like to stay with N clients.
You can read suggestested fixes on XDA Developer forums, none of them is definitive.

Same issue since one week. The previous two months everything was fine.
No internet connection & "Authentication Error" message if my phone is more than 2 meters from my router.
Laptops, Xperia and other devices connect with no issues.
I changed 802.11, WEP to WPA, static IP and other router properties. Tried too "Turn the wifi power saving option to off" (*#0011#), factory reset ... nothing works, the problem persists.

Samsung S3 upgraded to 4.1.2 yesterday in Spain. I did the update with KIES.
My S3 before:
- Samsung Galaxy S3 JRO03C.I9300XXDLJ4 JB 4.1.1 (kernel: 3.0.31.368423 / Baseband version: I9300XXDLID

The problem has not been solved and the problems continue to access my WIFI if I'm 2 meters away from my router. I keep getting the message "Authentication Error" and asks me to enter the password again. Everything is fine if I'm less than 2 meters from the router.
Other devices (Sony Xperia, PSVita, Samsung SmartTV, notebooks ..) work well throughout the house.
My phone is under warranty and this week I'll go to the store to have it repaired ... I'm tired of trying things in the S3 and make changes to my router settings to no avail.
When I returned my Samsung Galaxy S3, I will inform you.

HTC One S:
upgrade to JB: WiFi connection problems. No problems before with ICS.
Router dlink-615.
I recognized that after a while the signal strength starts to jumps frequently from low to high (with wifi analyser). Every time this happens, the phone lost wifi connection.
Only way to get a new connection is a rooter reboot. After reboot the signal stength is stable, i mean not jumping from high to low.
i could solve the problem by switching to a static ip. the problem does't occur any mote. when i switch back to DHCP the problem is present again.
Don't know why, but this is my experience.

ASUS RT-N66U running Tomato. I'm not sure configuration is relevant, as I've played around with just about every setting and see no change in behaviour. Won't connect to my 5GHz network no matter what I do. Other 5GHz devices all over the house connect to it just fine including cheap Chinese disposable hardware I've purchased for a few dollars on eBay. My Galaxy Nexuses (2 of them), however, will not. Occasionally if I reboot, they'll connect for a short while and then drop off, but usually they will not connect at all. It doesn't even look like they try. Clicking 'connect' changes nothing.

Same issue. Samsung forced the JB upgrade (4.1.x?) on my Tab 2 and now I've lost the ability to connect to the router. Surprisingly, it will connect to an AP, but performance is very slow.
This is either a Google bug or a Samsung bug, but I'm leaning heavily 99%+ on it begin Google crap and Samy didn't test it before forcing it on us....
Very disappointed, and nothing I can do about it right now.

I had the same problem with my HTC ONE S as you. Wifi was connected to the network but it was so slow that it wasn't even able to update a weather forcast. But then I found a solution. It worked at least for me so give it a try.
Solution: Switch off the WiFi, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Menu > Advanced and uncheck DLNA auto-IP at the bottom. Switch WiFi on then go back and recheck it (or leave it unchecked). ;)
I hope it will help you.

Hello
Just got my GT-N7105 for a couple of days, from the beginning very poor wifi connection when there is some distance between phone and router... Very annoying.
Running bone stock (no rooting ect) on 4.1.1
Tried almost everything that is available on the web for "fixing" the problem, nothing seems to work
Fix it google, "master in technology and the world wide web"
I was doubting between this and Iphone, better bought myself an Iphone
I also mailed samsung about the problem today, hope i'll get a reaction.

I upgraded from Jelly Bean on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to Ice Cream Sammich, and noticed a huge drop in performance of my wifi connection. In a two locations in my house where I used to get 2 bars and no connectivity drops, I now get consistent connectivity drops with an extreme IN-ability to reconnect. Both locations do have a lot of obstacles/walls between them, but considering the connection was still good and solid BEFORE the upgrade, I chalk it up to the OS upgrade to Ice Cream Sammich.
Wish I could go back... :( Wasn't really that much of an improvement of an OS anyways.

Hi guys!
Got an HTC One S (Snapdragon S4) and got the HTC OTA Update like 3 weeks ago. Since that update I am unable to connect to any wifi (not at home, at work or any public place). There is no detection of any wifi.
Further more, the hotspot does not work either or with very poor strenght. Most of the time my laptop does not connect to the phone as the signal is too weak.
With ICS 4.0.2 it was all fine, worked like a charm. Now it just sucks.
Where is the fix for that? It's over six month that this threat started.
XDA-Dev gave a fix but it needs rooting. Don't want to do that now.
c'mon google, do you want me to switch to WP8?

BTW, I think Nexus 7 (firmware v4.2) doesn't work properly with wifi N mode either. I have Samsung WAVE S8500 and it is able to connect to the router Acorp W520N at 72.2Mbps and it uses the same wifi hardware as Galaxy S1. At the same time newer Nexus 7 is able to connect only at 65Mbps. Definetly something is wrong with Android's 4.1-4.2 wifi implementation.
Devices:
Samsung Galaxy S2: Android version 4.1.2 (max speed 54Mbps on 4.1.2 and 65Mbps on 4.0.4)
Asus Nexus 7: Android version 4.2.1 (max speed 65Mps - I think it should be able to connect at 72.2Mbps)

Wifi config:
Frequency:2.4ghz
Security:WPA2 AES
Hidden SSID
Band mode: G+N
Fragment Threshold: 2346
RTS Threshold:2347
Beacon Interval:100ms
Traffic statistics page in the router shows large number of errors on Tx operation even if the distance between phone/tablet and router is about 3 meters.

i have the s3 att version with jb 4.1.1. I am only running 2.4ghz and the old fashioned wep authentication. set to allow wifi off during sleep. my connection is always strong even when the blue bars tell me otherwise...thru 2 stories and a bunch of walls. about once a month i find phone not connected to router (dinosaur di-624 dlink). I do get the authentication failed message, but I can just hit the connect button and i'm on again with no issues for maybe a month. no reboot of router ever needed. I get this same reaction at a buddy's house who is also using wep...good for weeks then authentication error...no problem just hit connect. my phone's wifi is constantly on and off since i pull it out about once an hour to check for messages. also have a dlink dir-655 set to wep that's never a problem.
I know wep is old with ugly overhead but i always have a wifi connection...worth it.
can anyone else confirm wep working good?

I have the same problem with Jelly Bean and Razr Max. Once "upgraded" to JB, I cannot connect to my "old outdated" Westtel 327W. It worked fine on ICS and before. Every other piece of equipment, including a brand new printer and a new Kindle HD work fine with the 327W. The Razr works fine on every other Wifi I've tried to connect to. So this "obsolete" stuff is a red herring. It is reprehensible that Google/Moto/Verizon did not take seriously the problems reported here since July 2012. This is only one of several features that JB regressed. This is a new paradigm for a brave new world "upgrade" which is really a downgrade, with scant if any documentation that completing the "upgrade" will cause a problem. You've gotta give the suits credit - they know they can get away with it - for now, but they have seriously injured the brands in my mind.

same shit with my SAMSUNG GT s-7562 i also installed CM11 so android 4.4.4 but no way...this is crazy....
Description
Connect to Wifi (2.4 or 5 GHz). Low signal + connections will drop "out of range" within a short distance, e.g. the next room from the router.
NB: Remember to disable "Avoid poor connections" otherwise the signal range is worse and the connection will drop even more often.
What happened.
Signal bar indication is very low (this was also the case in 4.0.x) but in 4.1.1 the wifi connection will drop frequently. The wifi range is worse than on 4.0.x. Routers that worked with 4.0.x are "out of range" with 4.1.1.
What you think the correct behavior should be.
Wifi range and signal level should be at least as good in 4.1.1 as in 4.0.x as I connect to the same routers.
Device and version of Android.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus GSM. Jelly Bean JRO03C 4.1.1.
Routers.
Results are base on my own D-link Dir-615 router but also routers owned by friends and family. So I can't give specific information on Router brands and model numbers.
