•Which version of the SDK are you using? 21 •Which Android build are you using? (e.g. KVT49L) LPX13D •What device are you using? NEXUS 5 •What steps will reproduce the problem? (Please provide the minimal reproducible test case.) Use device for a day, eventually system memory will overtake background cached apps and not allow any services
to run in the background •How frequently does the issue occur? (e.g. 100% of the time, 10% of the time) 100% of time •What is the expected output? System UI app/process does not consume excess memory •What do you see instead? Apps (even those kept alive with a notification entry) killed in background (eg. music stops playing, clock app will die, killing alarm) •Relevant logcat output. none ran •Captured Android bug report (i.e. using adb bugreport.) Be wary of leaking private information! none captured •Optional: Link to your APK or Google Play listing. •Optional: Screenshot of the issue. Thank you for reporting this issue. For us to be able to investigate this issue it would be helpful if you could provide Android bug report.

After reproducing the issue, press the volume up, volume down, and power buttons simultaneously. This will capture a bug report on your device in the “bug reports” directory. Attach this file to this issue.

Alternate method: After reproducing the issue, navigate to developer settings, ensure ‘USB debugging’ is enabled, then enable ‘Bug report shortcut’. To take bug report, hold the power button and select the ‘Take bug report’ option.

Not the original reporter but I'm having the same problem.

My phone has been up for just over a day, and I noticed it getting slower, less responsive, and no longer keeping apps running in the background. When I checked, system memory had ballooned to nearly 1GB and Process Stats described device memory as "critical".

I captured the bug report and have attached it here (I had to compress it with gzip to fit within this sites attachment size limit).

I managed to catch a bugreport as well, if that helps. adb shell dumpsys meminfo reports systemui using ~235MB and system ~165MB

LPX13D Nexus 5 16GB

Overall system slow down after using it for more than 24 hours. Often lag here and there, delay in touch responsiveness when opening, navigating in, and switching between apps.

System was using 500MB to 1GB of RAM when this happened. I also noticed that some apps were running in high RAM usage such as Inbox by Gmail (someday Inbox used up to 390MB of RAM) and Google Search (just happened to use 490MB of RAM) apps. The Memory details screenshot was taken after a reboot though. I'll take more screenshot of the Process Stats and its Memory details when my Nexus starts to lag overtime.

Need to reboot Nexus 5 each day to make it fast again where it should not have to reboot each day to maintain steady performance.

The bugreport and screenshot as attached. Hope this helps. :)

Could this be related to bug 189? I can't check the fix, but if there were a memory leak maybe it would start closing applications to free memory?

Issue 1922 has been merged into this issue.

I have the same issue on the Nexus 7. Something takes up all the memory for a bit, and all background services restart. It's annoying while I am reading or playing something the background music app restarts and launcher redraws.

This happens after a couple hour of use, and it happens every couple of minutes after the first time. A reboot fixes it, but it's annoying to reboot my nexus 7 daily, hope this gets fixed before final images.

It's still happening on the final build LXR21O in the Nexus 5 although it's not a surprise given that it hasn't been marked as fixed.

After usage for over a day I get these problems too. Launcher redraws very often. Without restart the device usage is no pleasure.

I have this issue to in Nexus 5. The launcher redraws every time and sometimes the music stops while playing. Its really annoying.

Same here on LRX21O, after a day or so, system memory (not apps!) grows up to a gig until apps and laucher (gel) start to close/redraw.

Please solve this problem. It is quite impossible to use the smartphone for more than 10hours

Sometimes with only one app open, I'd hit the Home button and it'll suddenly reload the launcher. Luckily I've only 4 shortcuts on my home screen.

NEXUS 5 running build number LRX21O.
