Shadow remains after menu is closed. This is a compiz problem and can be solved by following these instructions.

go to terminal!

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager ccsm

go to

Window Decoration>General>Shadow window

change the word "any" to "any & !(class=Usp)" (without the quotes) and restart or

logout/login
