What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. run rainmeter
What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I expect some ram usage and minimal cpu tax from rainmeter. Instead it causes the cpu to spike when running, no matter how long for. This is unusual because I have a fairly decent system. It occurs regardless of the configs used and does not appear to be tied to my virus scanner.

Posted on Jul 23, 2009 by Grumpy BirdWhich version of the Rainmeter are you using, your OS, and any Skin(s)
Posted on Jul 23, 2009 by Happy RabbitI was using the last stable version (0.14 I think?) and then tried the most recent to check if the problem went away. OS is windows 7 and I was originally using some home made skins but the CPU usage spikes dramatically when any skin is used.

Posted on Nov 15, 2009 by Helpful KangarooAny updates on this issues ? Had to stop using rainmeter till this get fixed cause my cpu usage is constantly around 20%~ (15% for system process and 5% for rainmeter), which is a bit too much.

Posted on Nov 28, 2009 by Grumpy BirdIs this continuous or just during initial Start up of Rainmeter?

Posted on Dec 3, 2009 by Grumpy BirdI have been doing some serious research on this and other issues, in the last few weeks...I will continue testing and finalize some results based on these tests in the next couple (Three) weeks.
So far I have had some very interesting findings, that may be of interest.

Posted on Dec 4, 2009 by Massive Dogproblem solved delete unnecessary skin create another folder in skins & move half of them to that close homemade skins & check cpu usage
my cpu usage is just 4% for rainmeters

Posted on Dec 4, 2009 by Grumpy BirdInteresting...I never considered this!!!
This is in my current lines of testing.
Will test as well and submit documentation as soon as I can
Thanks so much

Posted on Dec 8, 2009 by Helpful GiraffeI think 4% is still very high. I have a laptop and a more powerful desktop both running Rainmeter with same skins. Laptop 0% and desktop 4-9% CPU. It's driving me nuts. I can't figure out why my desktop CPU is getting hit and my less powerful laptop is not. UGH. Btw, same software running on both systems.

Posted on Dec 8, 2009 by Grumpy BirdAre you using the same antivirus on both systems??? Also is one system wireless while the other system is connected to the router.
Think about these things carefully and document the differences for us...please
Comment #16
Posted on Dec 9, 2009 by Helpful GiraffeYes I am, I'm using ESET NOD32 on both systems, both with the Rainmeter locations excluded. I've even completely uninstalled NOD32 on the affected machine and it made no difference. Yes, the laptop is always on Wifi, and the desktop (high CPU) is always connected to a router.

Posted on Dec 9, 2009 by Helpful GiraffeInteresting, when I disable my NIC on my desktop the rainmeter CPU usage goes down to 0 - 1%. I wonder why this is? Have you noticed CPU differences when using a LAN VS WLAN? Is there anyway to fix this?
Thanks!

Posted on Dec 9, 2009 by Grumpy BirdActually I have and it will be part of teh report I submit when I have finalized my testing.
Posted on Dec 9, 2009 by Helpful GiraffeThanks, but if you have found a temporary workaround to to resolve this issue I would really like to know. I don't want to be replacing NIC cards etc if it's completely unrelated.
Where will this report be submitted?
Thanks

Posted on Dec 9, 2009 by Grumpy BirdThe issue I found is Network connections that are un-used but active. It wouls eem that Rainmeter is doing everything it can to fond a reading from a resource that may not be used, but thinks that it should be.
The report will be filed in teh forums upon completion.
This report will be a list of the Good, the bad, and the Ugly kind of thing. If I found a solution...I will document it. If not it will be there to be solved.
I presume that you are using the Hardwire connection with your laptop...If I read the above statement correctly. What is the update time on the skin? I presume that if you disable the NIC....No internet???

Posted on Dec 9, 2009 by Helpful GiraffeMy laptop is always connected via wifi and I never have rainmeter CPU problems. My desktop is connected to a Version FIOS router via a Ethernet cable and the CPU is always high. However, when I disable my NIC on my desktop, rainmeter only uses 1-2% CPU (which I expect).

Posted on Dec 9, 2009 by Helpful GiraffeAnd yes, if I disable the NIC, I wont have internet

Posted on Dec 9, 2009 by Grumpy BirdThere is also the fact of network measures are taken...Different tools and dll's. What skin(s) are you using?
Posted on Dec 9, 2009 by Helpful GiraffeI'm running the Enigma Clock, notes, calendar, and Itunes with art. I've tried different skins and had similar results.

Posted on Dec 10, 2009 by Happy ElephantHave had the same problem since i installed the latest version, at least i think so (1.1 rev 306). Running windows 7, the older version (0.14) did show a problem with the cpu vut kept shutting down. Currently rainmeter uses 1-4% cpu and about 35mb of memory, rather a lot. The solution in comment 12 reduced both the memory and cpu usage by about 5 times. Using the Tranquil skin with extra hdd's added. Cheers!

Posted on Dec 20, 2009 by Swift MonkeyI had the exact same problem. My resolution was to upgrade my network card drivers. I rebooted (even though it didn't require me to) and my CPU load decreased to normal levels. Hope this helps!

Posted on Dec 22, 2009 by Helpful GiraffeThanks, I'm at the latest broadcom drivers :( Might be time for a new card anyway.

Posted on Jan 6, 2010 by Quick CamelI had this problem and found what was causing it. My motherboard has two NICs. Only one is used but the second is still enabled. If I disabled the NIC that isn't being used, my cpu usage goes back to normal. Hope this helps.

Posted on Dec 1, 2014 by Happy DogHaving the sane kind of trouble; with rainmeter running the CPU spikes at around 100% and won't come back down for nothing, except killing rainmeter.
Is this a common problem?
It wasn't an issue for about 9 months and suddenly in the past 3 days it runs out of control; I NEED these skins to monitor transfer rates and other things?
How can it go from about 14% to 100% pegged and stay that way???

Posted on Dec 1, 2014 by Happy DogP.S. Now Avast is causing the same prob. with Rainmeter not running; my CPU is running away on my laptop and I can't seem to derail it!
