Cannot duplicate this error in 4.3.1 for Vista ntfs on sda1. "Windows drive" is not specific enough to close the issue so I am leaving it unconfirmed.

I have now tried to replicate this on one desktop and two laptops. Both laptops are newish with loads of ram and fast cpu's. no problems at all when browsing XP folders. The desktop is much older, early p4 with 250mb ram. When browsing big XP folders Rox does stutter a little and sometimes freeze briefly but no black screen. So more to do with old, low spec hardware maybe than puppy/rox?

I have seen this happen alot with Rox 2.6. I update with the Rox 2.8 pet after checking each release of Puppy. It seems to be a limit on number of files.

I can confirm that this problem affects me. My Compaq laptop is not the hottest but I wouldn't consider it really low spec and it is not old. In my case, Rox opens the folder and some file and directory names are displayed, in their normal locations but without icons. The icons then start to be displayed, about two per second. This continues about 20 seconds and then the screen blanks. If there is an application maximised in the second desktop it looks normal until the application window is reduced in size, when you see black behind it. Restarting X restores the desktops.

My set up is 430Small frugal on a dedicated partition on the single hard disk. The NTFS partition, containing Vista is 25GB with 9GB free.

My machine specs are:

Compaq C793VU labtop CPU Intel Celeron 560 @ 2.13GHz CPU benchmarks: Blowfish 17.57 Fibonacci 71.20 N-Queens 10.75

Hard drive ATA SAMSUNG HM121HI 120GB(Nominal) hdparm result cached = 748.6MB/sec buffered= 58.28MB/sec

The bug is fixed for seamonkey 2 on 434V3 running from an SD card. The population of the Rox window with icons is still very slow, but faster than seamonkey 1 on 430Small. The big difference is that 430 eventually crashes, 432 does not.
