Posted on Nov 21, 2011 by Happy Lion

What steps will reproduce the problem? (Please state what you did, what you are expecting to happen, and what actually happens)

  1. Configure muscitracker with either autodetect or Rhythmbox
  2. Start Rhythmbox and Pidgin
  3. Play something (Last.fm or some radio)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected: information of what is being played, this is not the case, with neither MSN and XMPP.

What version of musictracker are you using? What version of pidgin are you using? On what operating system?

musictracker 0.4.22 Pidgin 2.10.0 (libpurple 2.10.0) Ubuntu 11.10

What media player are you using?

Rhythmbox (2.90.1)

What IM protocol(s) are you using?

XMPP (both Facebook and GTalk) and MSN

Please attach or paste output from pidgin's Help/Debug Window (be careful to remove any protocol usernames you don't want made public)

20:51:00) musictracker: trying 'Rhythmbox' (20:51:00) musictracker: dbus name 'org.gnome.Rhythmbox' has an owner (20:51:00) musictracker: Failed to get playing state from rhythmbox dbus (Method "getPlaying" with signature "" on interface "org.gnome.Rhythmbox.Player" doesn't exist ). Assuming player is stopped

I used Banshee just before switching to Rhythmbox, musictracker worked fined as well with Banshee.

have you tried configuring your rhythmbox plugin? rhythmbox>Edit>plugins>IM status

I use the rhythmbox plugin, which is a work around, not a fix for pidgin-musictracker. The rhythmbox plugin is not as useful, as it does not remove the IM status once a track stops playing, thus leaving the user to manually delete it. Also it is kind of nice to customize one's status using variables in pidgin-musictracker.

Not only does the Rhythmbox plugin not work as well for setting the status, but it doesn't work as well overall. pidgin-musictracker is capable of setting the “Now Listening” field for MSN/WLM; Rhythmbox blindly sets the status and completely ignores the field specifically intended for the information.

The same problem here. I'm using musictracker 0.4.22 with pidgin 2.10.5 on fedora 17. The plugin does not update my status when I use Rhythmbox.
