picback

A tool for Picasa users for making backups of photo albums and saving disk space

Picasa is a great piece of software, but it provides only limited support for backup. If you have a large photo library and want to save the precious space on your computer by removing all the non-starred photos from the internal hard drive after saving a backup on an external one, Picasa has nothing to offer you, except if you do it manually. Picback allows you to do it quickly and easily in a simple and intuitive way.

Picback provides an intuitive user interface which can give you an overview over the disk space consumption across your albums and helps you decide which album you should archive. Then you can select the albums you want to backup, choose the destination folder and Picback will make the backup for you, removing the non-starred photos from the source locations if you instruct it to do so.

NOTE: Picback doesn't backup image annotations and tags which Picasa stores in an embedded database. If you want to backup images along with the annotations use the backup functionality provided by Picasa.

Installation and running

No installation is needed for Picback itself. If a recent http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp'>Java Runtime is properly installed on your computer it will be enough just to http://picback.googlecode.com/files/Picback.jar'>download Picback.jar, save it in some decent location and double click on it to start it.
