<tilesets> have the <expire> keyword that is used to send http headers to requesting clients to allow them to keep tiles in the browser cache. This keyword (or another one) could also be used by the caches to automatically expire the tiles they store, i.e. a tile will be re-requested from the source after the given period of time.
