Would be nice, if the use of a base64 token for authentication inside the URI are possible. With a token to basic auth mapping. +1

do you mean: * user:pass@host/path/wms? * "user" and "password" xml elements inside an child of the ? * Basic c2NvdHQ6dGlnZXI= which would be placed in the HTTP Authorization header?
