keepnote - issue #633

Cannot open attached files, only Explorer window opens

Posted on Dec 4, 2012 by Grumpy Horse

If I attempt to open a file, I only get a Windows Explorer window at my Documents folder. If I attempt to "view note in text editor", Microsoft Word gives me the error:

"The directory name is not valid. (C:...\firewall_domain_enabled_rules_...)"

What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Create a note 2. Attach a file to the note 3. Double-click the note or try to "view note in text editor"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I expect to see the open document in notepad or Word, but instead I see either a Windows Explorer window at my Documents directory, or a the MS Word with an error message.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? Keepnote 0.7.8 on Windows 7 SP1

Please provide any additional information below. It seems like the destination program is receiving a malformed path or the Keepnote is expecting the destination program to start in the Keepnote folder and it isn't.

It should be noted that the only way I can get my attachment back out of Keepnote is through the web browser. It does allow me to view through the web browser.

I figured out that the reason it wouldn't open the file is that the path was not visible to the launcher. After I initially created my notebook, I was never able to see the notebook folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Keepnote. The folder was invisible. I backed up the notebook and restored it into the My Documents folder where it is plainly visible and the launcher can see it.
