gmarks-android - issue #22

Translate: German

Posted on Feb 18, 2011 by Happy Horse

Here are the English files. strings.xml contains the text for the app. When you see %d in a string it means "a number will be inserted here" and %s means a word.

For example "Search results for \'%s\'" will become "Search results for 'blog'". If it's not appropriate to 'quote' a term in your language then you can remove the \' around %s.

Changes.txt is for the Android Market listing, that way the app can be listed in your own language.

You can attach your completed files to this issue. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much for your help!

That's Ok -- I'll post an APK with the translaton so you can see the translation in app and determine if it all looks correct. You need to be able to sideload though

Hi berkley,

Actually it looks like there's some encoding problem with that file. The character set is not UTF-8. What text editor are you using? There should be some menu like 'format or 'character encoding' that you can change to UTF-8. After you change it, you might have to fix those characters and re-save the file. Here's what I'm seeing:

Whle luft Lsche Lesezeichen Lesezeichen gelscht

One more thing: the text: Erlaube Synchronisation im Hintergrund is a little too long for the preference item. Could it be shortened to "Erlaube Synchro im Hintergrund"

Thanks!

Hi,

changes.txt is done, too.

Hmm, I used the standard "Wordpad" from Windows. I can't find any settings for format or character encoding. Even the help didn't find something about UTF-8. Which text editor should I use?

I can do some shortenings when the problems with "ä", "ö" and "ü" is solved.

Cheers

Just an idea that came to my mind... I made some small changes in standard "text editor" from Windows and saved the 2 files again... Here they are. Have a look at them.

The other question is, if your PC is able to display "ä" = ae?

Those last files you posted look perfect!!! Thanks so much.

How would you like to be credited? Do you have a name/username/ Twitter handle you'd like me to put in the 'thanks'?

I'm glad, that these files work now the way they should work. ;)

What about the shortenings? You wrote: "Erlaube Synchronisation im Hintergrund" is a little too long for the preference item. Could it be shortened to "Erlaube Synchro im Hintergrund"

Is that the only phrase to be shortened? If so, you did it well.

Ehhmmm, about credits... I don't need it. But if you want to, you can use "berkley".

Cheers
