I was at the techtalk in Toronto last december and they made sure to repeat one million times that the server does not have to connect and disconnect every time, but maitain the connection alive as long as possible. It seems that you close the connection every time you send a notification. Did you have problem with that?

The connection should be maintained and persistent. Are you having issues with this?
Can you be more specific? I'm not aware of any issues as of the latest version with this.
