ampacheberry - issue #7

Neither Internal nor BB player work

Posted on Feb 20, 2011 by Helpful Cat

What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. install ampacheberry as directed. Start it up no problem 2. create a playlist and tell it to play 3. or create playlist and switch to BB player

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

In the internal player I either get very broken playback or nothing at all. In the BB player I get message 'Invalid Playlist'

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Blackberry 8900 v4.6.1199 Ampacheberry V0.2.2

Please provide any additional information below.

I'm not a blackberry user, this is my wife's phone so if you need additional information, please tell me how to get it. Ampache is streaming just fine to my iPhone and the rest of my family via internet, just not this blackberry. Also, I'm testing this from home over the wireless connection so I don't think bandwidth is the problem.

I don't know everything about BlackBerry networking, but I know enough to know it's messy and complicated and is most likely the cause of your struggles. Your BlackBerry might by configured to connect through a BlackBerry Enterprise Server if the device is corporate issued. If so, the server might throttle the bandwidth. You can try a couple of things to alleviate this in such a case. Try each "Connection" type in the Options screen of Ampacheberry to see if one type performs better than others. Also, try using the local IP address of your Ampache server in the Options screen if you're on local WiFi, i.e. 192.168.x.x or whatever your server address is. Lastly, as a last-resort, ditch effort, you can try transcoding in Ampache to downsample. I've heard reports that this is the only way some users can successfully stream. With the right configuration, you can set up a user that is created strictly as a BlackBerry user, and you can set up downsampling for that user only. I'll leave that as an exercise in research. I'm pretty sure there are instructions on the Ampache site. Additionally, as on anecdotal test, are you able to stream any other music services, such as Pandora, etc? I hope some of this info can help out. Keep me posted.

p.s. Nice XBMC projects ;) I'm also a big fan of XBMC and MythTV.
