Please somebody read this and fix soon. The inability of the default calendar on
one's phone to sync with their google calendar makes the possibility of time

This feature of not being able to sync my calendar with my online one has made
scheduling problems for me. Not only that I got the android phone because it is a
google phone basically. I thought getting this phone would allow me to connect to my
gmail and all the other services that google has unique to other phones. So street
view gps and so on. Its kind of upsetting to know that the Iphone and Blackberry
which don't run on googles android system get bettter treament than the phones they "
call their own".

Hey, guys, how about we knock it off with the comments about how upset we are? These
comments are meant to be helpful to a developer. If you have relevant details, by
all means, post them. If you're just upset because "I want it NOW!", then keep it to
yourself. I get enough emails as is, and I don't need to hear your whining.
To the devs: thanks for the wonderful product. Sorry I don't have any
development-relevant feedback. Keep up the great work!

Sorry. I just felt Like I had to have my say. I never knew the volume of the comments specially since there was

attention on such a basic issue. It just looks bad if Iphone users and blackberry users get this over us.

hi, i too have been struggling to get a smooth sync on my htc hero in the uk.
my calendar events were being duplicated and i could not upload any calendar events
from my phone, either from the htc calendar or from gmail on the webbrowser on the
phone.
i seem to have it now, but here are some things i tried. i'm not sure what worked!
firstly, i rang orange (my phone is not locked to orange, but my monthly contract is
with them) and asked them to lift my adult content screening on my account. (this
idea came from some forum post somewhere saying that it might help. i didn't see any
improvement, though.
i rang orange tech support. they were aware of the issue and said i had to hard reset
the device, then create a NEW gmail account on start up, then having done that, i
could link my usual google account to my phone and it would pick it up from there. i
did all of that .. still the same problem.
finally, i did another hard reset, went into the htc calendar settings and unticked
'connnect to outlook' and also 'calendar', just leaving it linked ot my google
calendars.
it worked!!!
however, i weakened when, after a few uses, it prompted me to install google gears i
guess. just got a message saying that i could speed up the program if i added what i
assume to be gears.. as soon as i did this, then the old problem returned. i have
gone back into programme management and have forced closure of google apps. seems to
be working fine now, on either the internet on my phone or on the htc calendar.
wooo hooo!

I have transitioned to Sense UI (what they have on the HTC Hero) on my Magic/G2, and
that allows you to select which calendar you want to use by default. It's a huge
improvement over the stock Android 1.5 that came on my phone. Does anybody know if
Android 1.6 or 2.0 has this functionality?

I just bought the HTC Eris from Verizon (running Android 1.6). The default calendar
on this phone DOES appear to be the Google calendar (the one with my name), but even
if it weren't the event creation screen allows me to select the calendar I want it
created on. However, this problem still is there when creating events on my Google
calendar. Events entered on the phone do not appear in my Google calendar on the web.
So I think there may be more to it than just this.

From the number of comments I've read about problems with sync and google android calendar, it would seem that this is the cause. People think it's not syncing because the android app is set to use the internal non-syncing calendar rather than the google one.

It is a 'must have' to be able to change your default calendar.
Our corporate users use their smartphone to mainly sync with our exchagne environment.
When they create a calendar entry...it should be therefore an Exchange Calendar entry. Having the user to explicitly pick each time the exchange calendar when they create a new appointment is asking for problems !

Amazing that the problem has not been resolved since it as initiated in September of 2009 almost 11 months. This change should be a simple for developers and I would have thought there would have been some changes in firmware since then. I am currently running 2.1-update1 and am having the identical issue of 'my calendar'being set as the default.
I know that there is going to be a new firmware 2.2 release sometime this summer. Please either remove the 'my calendar' by defult, or at least give us the option to delete it or any other unwanted calendars that sync through google/calendars or other.
This seems to be a no brainer. I hope this catches someones eye at google soon. this kind of an oversight and lengthy delay in resolution could really imply some negatives about google. Simple fix = happy customers.

I'm disappointed that I have to point out AGAIN that these comments are not for tirades about how upset you are that this bug exists. These are for comments relevant to the developers about what the bug is, and how to reproduce it.
Given that Android is open-source, why don't you make yourselves useful? Here's the relevant source code:http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/packages/apps/Calendar.git;a=summary
Have you fixed it yet? No? Then stop spamming my inbox. The bug report has been filed and your whining isn't helping.

I am not sure about a simple bug report to developers. is it?
It looks like a design problem. More over, right now, we have few versions of
android running. Some are working, some not, some are politically involved.
Why not to stop this thread and address people to the correct one?
My new (old) LG phone is indeed confused between exchange and google calendars.
While I think that the original bug is solved in the new android releases,
for the lucky new customers, I think there is still a political problem
in synchronization with any calendar. Or I wouldn't understand why my evolution
cannot work with the new exchange servers. (some droids do).
The bug is solved in the newer androids. The problem not completely.
Who is the default? Me, google or MS?
I would choose "Me". But they do not know.

For those using a Samsung Galaxy S, (possibly also other devices where the manufacturer has 'customised the calendar & calendar provider applications) the problem is caused by the Samsung touch calendar, if this is replaced by the standard Android calendar, the problem is solved, This is refered to by the original post in this issue where the poster inadvertantly states the solution, when they say that there was no issue with this with the standard calendar, only with HTC Sense.
The downside is that, in order to reinstate the standard Android calendar the device has to be routed.

I don't understand why this is happening. I've had the Moto Droid, now the Droid X, and it never provided me with a default "My Calendar" that was un-syncable. The Google Calendar feature was the primary reason I splurged on a fancy smartphone rather than a car (in Phoenix!) as a grad student -- an organized, productive life is my priority right now. Yet it's faster and more convenient for me to carry a pen and large agenda book than to deal with this sync issue on my phone!
This is ridiculous! I love my phone other than this feature, but I would NOT recommend it right now. This is a deal-breaker. Fix the code, please, for the love of all the sane people searching for ways to keep themselves on top of their busy schedules!

Samsung Fascinate with same issue. Can't tell from all these posts WHEN we will be able to change default calendar.
ca...@gmail.com <ca...@gmail.com> #76
Whilst I am well aware that the problem is in samsung's custom build of the calendar and that the stock android calendar is fixed (my n1 was fine anyway), I would like to point out that samsung's fix is useless if you use an exchange server. It still doesn't let you *choose* the default calendar, it merely defaults to google calendar if you have one. So it's still lame.
Honestly, between HTC Sense's broken exchange activesync mail on exchange 2003, Samsung's broken calendar and un-fixed exchange 2010-sp1 sync, it's really looking like stock android is the only way to go.
I miss my Nexus One! All it needed was a better dialer and to not have gotten stolen!

For anyone stumbling on this thread because they are having this problem with a Samsung Galaxy phone (like the Epic, the Fascinate, the Captivate or the Vibrant).
A little background:
The samsung phones currently do not use Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) which apparently fixes this problem. There is a "leaked version" of the 2.2 ROM available to those of you who like to try out such things. And, for the rest of us, Android 2.2 is "coming soon" supposedly within weeks and we all hope this will bring this thread to a close one year and one month after it started.

@talarson:
Yes, by default I have both "My calendar" and my primary google calendar selected in "Calendars". After I have added a calendar event on my Galaxy S, if sync is ON, it sends the event by default to my primary Google calendar. There seems to be no way to have secondary Google calendar in my "Calendars", nor to use it as a default Calendar.
However! It IS possible to create a new event and manually change the Event Calendar to "My Calendar", which is on device. This way the event is not automatically sent to my primary Google Calendar. This setting seems to stay on the last set calendar for new events.
I haven't tested what happens to Outlook calendar events if they are transferred to the phone using Kies so I don't know if these events will still fly straight to my Google primary or not.
As far as I am concerned, I would like to have my secondary Google calendar available in my phone settings, so that I could use it to sync my work events and leave my primary calendar view-only.
Hope this helps!

On Android devices, the Calendar application is automatically synced with the Google Calendar server, and vice versa. If you experience problems with syncing, try clearing your device's calendar application data and doing a fresh sync with the server.

Please guys, this is the official issue/enhancement request "Possibility to change default calendar" for Android.
- Not a generic Samsung/HTC/Motorola "how-to" forum.
- Not a "how-to get Google calendar as default" forum.
IMO a really important "feature", I would actually want to label it as a "Defect". The status of the issue is "New" - not accepted by the team. Please do star this issue!

Samsung Epic -- default "my calendar" on device still does not sync w/ google calendar. I've messed up several appts this way when they weren't backed up and viewable online where I do most of my calendar work!
For a business phone vs a toy, this seems pretty basic.
DEVELOPERS, PLEASE.
1] LET USERS CUSTOMIZE WHICH IS THE DEFAULT CALENDAR.
2] ANY CALENDAR THAT DOESN'T BACK UP TO GOOGLE CALENDARS ONLINE IS FOR THE MOST PART USELESS, SO WHY HAVE IT???
3] THIS SHOULD NOT WORK ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO CREATE A NEW GOOGLE ACCT FROM THEIR PHONE, NOR FOR PEOPLE WHO ONLY HAVE A SINGLE GOOGLE CALENDAR. Again, if its supposedly a PDA and business friendly, this basic function should be an easy fix, not a long standing complaint on forums.
What do we need to do to get it resolved for all phones?

Google,
As more and more people are using android for business purpose, I suggest that you listen a bit more to your users at this 'bug' (not an enhancement, it's a bug).
Funny thing is, I don't have this problem with the iPhone...
(I use the android for as a private phone, came with a subscription, I use Apple's iPhone for business)
Because of this bug (I tested both a Nokia, Apple and Android device) android phone's are now ruled out within our company.
See it as a action to no reaction kinda thing...
Don't be evil :)

Hi All - Pocket Informant by WebIS can do this. Using PI, it will allow you to set the default calendar for event entries, and this will sync to Google. It's currently beta, but seems to work pretty well except if you try to then sync your Mac with Google's calendars - there's a bug in iCal that shows the event, but it's in dashed lines because it things the calendar name is an invitee. Anyway - check it out and try it out - it might just be usable for until the beta bugs are squashed.

It seems to me that Google does not care about their customers. We need the ability to set our corporate calendar as the default. Google insists theirs be default. Unless this is corrected and other calendar items, deletion problems, recurring events on a biweekly basis without loging into the web, I wil be going to another phone that allows customer changes. If more people changed to a phone that can handle the changes in the calendar we need, maybe Google will get it.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S. I MUST be able to change the default calendar in the native calendar application, when I input a new event. By default it puts events on the phone's calendar and thus there is NO SYNC with a google calendar or any subsequent calender that is synced with the google calendar. Yes, I can change the setting when inputting a new event... but this is an extra step which can easily be forgotten. This makes for missed appointments, angry bosses, and hence ANGRY CUSTOMERS who will GET RID OF THEIR GOOGLE PHONES!

Having a default be a calendar that does not sync anywhere is just dumb. At the very least I would expect Google to push more Google services. I use the Google calendar service but with my android phone I constantly have to deselect "create event in my calendar" and have to select my Google calendar. Often, if I forget to do this my calendar event does not appear at all. Why, you may ask? Because with multiple calendars I have no use for one that is specifically tied only to my phone, so it does not appear on my displayed calendars. I am so frustrated with this seemingly simple fix. Obviously 134 other people have taken the time to note this and 491 people have starred this issue. Do you developers not use a calendar? If the developers did, this would have been fixed a long time ago. Please!

Samsung Fascinate as well.
What is amazing is that in the calendar settings you can chose to not show any of the events you enter into the default "My Calendar"
This setting is set once, and it, unlike the default calendar entry, sticks....
And yet, every time you enter a new event, it is entered into the same, now invisible, default "My Calendar"!!!!
This is not just a missing feature. With the fact that you are forced to enter every event into a an invisible calendar by default, a calendar that you can no longer see even on your phone, this is a grade A certified Bug (or "Undocumented Feature" to use MS parlance.)
I'd love to see this undocumented feature adjusted.
thanks.

It's been two years, the developers have everything they need to know to fix it, now F&*CKEN FIX IT PLEASE..
Thank you.

I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to have the calendar entries default to gmail calendar. Having to change the entry from my calendar to gmail calendar is foolish , and dangerous. One of the reasons I went to a smart phone was for the calendar with it automatically backing it up. Really want to get rid of the paper calendar. I have a Samsung Fascinate. I think this should be a priority requirement.

Took me some time first to charge the galaxy tablet fully to do the update to the latest version, but STILL unsolved by SAMSUNG. I used a G1 developer phone from the beginning. Never sync issues! Friend of mine sent me Calengoo. After installing first question is: what calender do you want to use for new appointments? YES, worked within seconds. So now appointments from Galaxy appear in cloud calender. Easy! :)

Wow, I am truly disappointed. My Samsung Continuum has this same problem with not being able to default to the Google calendar, so I'm here in the "Help" section to try to find an answer. What I found was that people have been asking for this change since September of 2009 (at least in this forum). This should be a priority, Google.

Problem solved? My HTC Incredible Android 2.2 defaults to the last calendar used to create an event, which seems to be the right approach. I have 5 calendars (Exchange, 3 Google, PC sync), and I switched the default from Google to Exchange just by creating a new event there. So, no problem here.
kl...@gmail.com <kl...@gmail.com> #152
Thanks, here on the Galaxy S2 too. If you once select the right agenda, then the next time it will remember it. Pitty that I had to read till the last post before the solution was found.

Galaxy S reverts to my calendar...at least for me. So, since I'm not holding my breath for a fix, I'll have to manually switch to google calendar. I just hope I don't forget. I can tell this is going to be trouble and will probably cost me $. The day I miss an appointment is the day I make the switch to an iphone.

And I just realized it's because I'm still on 2.1 Regional carrier hasn't upgraded to 2.2 Super

Wow. I've been suffering in silence with this issue just assuming it was something I'd misconfigured on my Samsung Fascinate. Can't believe so many users have complained of this, for so long, and this is still outstanding. What's the deal?
ma...@gmail.com <ma...@gmail.com> #156
We need this too. I just missed an important meeting because the event accidentally went onto My Calendar. Please click the star at top left of page everyone. This is embarrassing for Google.
je...@gmail.com <je...@gmail.com> #157
Testing a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate here with v2.2. I can confirm that it uses the last used calendar when creating events, that means, it remembers the last setting.
ze...@gmail.com <ze...@gmail.com> #158
I can successfully change the default calendar, but then cannot change the alert settings. If I change the alert settings to an audible alarm, as opposed to a silent notification bar icon, the calendar reverts.

Sorry, I should have mentioned, I have a Samsung Galaxy Prevail running a Boost Mobile Modified Calendar app (I believe it's only the color scheme that's changed) and Android 2.2

I finally have had to get my computer guru husband to sort this out - he had to really search out the solution for a few minutes and his career is in email/internet/pda comms! Heaven help mortals like me! Android must address this problem and fast - I cannot live my life by fiddling for hours with my Galaxy to put a simple appointment in ensuring it goes to the right calandar etc. I have nearly wrecked a good friendship and business opportunity by missing an appointment that djd not sync with my home computer calaedar! Sort it out Samsung/Google whatever!

I've just got a new Android phone (Galaxy Ace) having been using a different system previously. I'm surprised and disappointed that you can't simply set a default calendar. Thanks to those who've identified the fact that subsequent events default to the last used calendar - but even that has the risk that I'll forget when I've put something in a less-used and might end up put everything in that for the rest of the day! A global setting for default calendar for new events is definitely needed.

Google. fix this. This has to be what, 3 lines of code? I missed several meetings because of this. Come one.

THIS IS SO F&?%#?$ STUPID... 1998 palm pilots figured it out. My calandar! not, Android's calandar, plus mine on the side I might need it... Maybe it's better to add apointment in my phone and hide it from me on my desktop... One life in two calandars... Very helpfull... Reeal geniuses tought it out... Are you taking crak or what!!! Sory I am pissed I tought resetting my tablet would make it functional, now I will take 2-3 hours to put it back to almost practical... Lets put contacts on a text file and copy paste on the phone app!!!! Seriously guys,, why is emails synking ok but My calendar is not mine on my desktop...

Just set up my Samsung phone to sync the calendar with Lotus Notes. Now I'm struggling with the same issues as 163 people before me. Amazing that after more than 2 years something basic like user-friendly calendar management is still not possible. Please fix it. If you want advice: (1)When a particular calendar is made visible/invisible in the calendar settings, add/remove it from the drop-down list in "create a entry" (almost as good as adding/removing a calendar); (2) give the user the option to select a default calendar; (3) create a feature to move an entry from one calendar to another one (to allow the user to fix errors without having to re-type the whole thing).

Samsung phones, Android 2.3, using CalDAC-Sync,
1st an option to change the default calendar.
2ndly an option to change the calendar that an appointment is on after you realise it is on the wrong calendar.
This is frustrating our staff. If the option is already there, then an easier way to do it would be nice.

Any estimate on when this will be fixed?
Any other useful calendar application with a default settings menu out there?

OK, I'm calm again, and happier... The calendar app actually remembers which calendar account I last selected during the creation a new event, so maybe we don't need a default calendar setting in the menu, since it will always just use the sync account selected for the previously created new event (on the phone). Case closed?

Description
Calendar for creating new events. Since "My Calendar" is not synced the
present situation calls for a change everytime an event is created.
According to linked thread this shows differently on different devices:
"what is a funny thing is that on HTC Hero with the cupcake (instead of the
proprietary HTC Sense) interface, the calendar application remembers the
last type of calendar used. Not on magic though..."
