Also, have you tried using pass-through mode instead? It works a lot better for things like google docs.

I would suggest pass-through mode. Also, you can try gi or using hinting to reselect the textbox again.
However, because google docs is doing weird stuff, it possibly won't work.

(Also, I am trying to convince the project to move to github. 😸 )

I think that this has been fixed in the latest alpha release along with the facebook issue that has been plaguing vimperator recently.
