Issue 47: Persistent error message, no back-ups made
Status:  New
Owner: ----
Reported by rubynera...@gmail.com, Jan 20, 2011
What steps will reproduce the problem?
Every time I try to back up my account I sign in OK via OAuth. I select 'my Tweets' and then 'Get 'em', but I then get the following error message:

Oh no! Twitter is busy and won't talk to me (error 502). But you may be able to retrieve a partial backup by setting the 'ignore errors' option and trying again.

I have tried this on and off for the past two months, but always get the same message. I have tried unprotecting my account, but still get the same message. I have tried different browsers, but still get the same message.

It is intensely frustrating, as it has worked so well for me in the past. My OS is Vista Home Premium.

Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong would be very welcome.

Many thanks for your attention to this matter,
Kind regards,
Ruby

Ruby, you don't say whether you are able to get a partial backup or not, by setting that option.

The problem is that Twitter returns the error in question to our software when we try to take backups. When we get the error we abandon the backup, which according to Twitter's documentation is the correct thing to do. However from other reading it would seem we should be handling errors differently.

Unfortunately I don't have much time right now to work on Tweetake.

Sorry, I forgot to add that. I can get a partial backup, but it's only about 400 Tweets rather than the 3200 I used to get. I guess I'll just have to remember to back up every few days, instead of every few months.

Thank you for your prompt response--it is a real shame that Twitter is doing this, as I love both it and your service.

Kind regards,
