The goal of TVShow2 is to create a small, lightweight Media front end.

This doesn't replace media players like Windows Media Player or iTunes, but rather extends them - allowing you to control iTunes with a PC remote, for example.

Currently, TVS2 is in the early implementation stage. We have a basic system design, and we're working on the smaller components to build a complete system.

Eventually, TVS2 will be able to do the following:

  • Play any video or audio that Windows Media Player can support
  • Play iTunes music or video
  • Play media with VLC
  • Launch external apps, such as a DVD player or PVR program
  • Whatever else people come up with for plugins.
  • Work with remote controls, either via the USB-UIRT or Media Center remote

TVS2 is designed around a plugin architecture. Other than the main window, all of the visual elements and program elements are plugins. The main menu, for example, is a plugin that reads the menu structure from a simple text configuration file.
