friend management

current development:

  • add "reconnect" button to disconnected friends

alpha implementation:

  • invite (nonce) creation from webpage
  • saves nonce into database with expiration date
  • send nonce with connect string, from connect field on webpage
  • add nonce field to hello packet
  • check nonce field if hello packet references unknown user
  • if nonce field valid: add user, invalidate nonce
  • else: leave nonce, break connection

goals/vision:

launch tryst, know that friend is online with tryst running no central server managed by tryst

tryst: tryst has generic plugin functionality for "signin friends" api

plugins:

each plugin (jabber, facebook?) is responsible for reporting the ip address of people on your respective friends list

security: need to be able to verify friends

current/dumb: connect to ip as specified

friend discovery

  • email
  • contains link to local tryst web server
  • link sends nonce

friend authentication

  • three-way handshake, shared key
  • all of this is encapsulated in "first connection"
  • first connection is handled at friend discovery

friend rediscovery

  • leverage friend network?
  • build friend network

friend dediscovery/defriending

  • leverage friend network

implementable:

  • enter friend email address into local tryst
  • generates & sends email to friend
  • email contains link to friend's local tryst server on default port / copy and paste link into new friend request page
  • link contains some invitekey
  • invitekey: target ip address and random number (nonce) that is valid for 24h
  • target clicks link / pastes nonce into tryst
  • target tryst sends nonce back to local tryst over ssl
  • ssl connection sends certificates which are then whitelisted
  • for all future normal connections
