What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install StatusNotifier
2. Read all mail
3. Notice thatthe "new email" indicator in the toolbar is still there

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected the icon to clear, but it does not. It has been there since I
installed this app.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
version 0.1 on my iPhone 3G, using firmware 2.1

Please provide any additional information below.

I can confirm that this is not an isolated case. I also found that if you have any
inactive accounts that it seems to be able to tell if you have unread email in those
as well. Could be an independent issue.

Same with me. Comes back immediately after rebooting also, even though i had no new
messages. I'm on an iPhone "classic" HA, firmware 2.1, version 0.1.2.

yep. Same issue here. No matter what I do, the mail notify won't clear properly. For whatever reason SMS
pops up and then clears just fine for me.

not sure about "does not clear", I had no unread mail (in any of the three accounts,
one exchange and two imap) when I installed 0.1.2 and the mail icon is just
permanently shown.

I think it reads even unread trash mail. When I deleted unread trash mail the icon disappeared.

aha, yes, I had 70 unread mails in a non-inbox folder in my exchange account

I just double checked my accounts, and I don't have *anything* marked as unread in
any of my accounts. I even cleared out my spam folder.

Regardless, this should not be the default behaviour. It ought to look at the actual
Mail application on the phone, determine whether there are unread messages there, and
display or hide the icon accordingly.

I found this on another forum. It worked for me, but I had to restart the phone
after deleting the file, and launch the mail app before things started working
properly.

To all those having problems with the mail icon no disappearing:

Delete the following file on your iPhone:

/private/var/mobile/Library/Mail/Envelope Index

That's it. No negative consequences.
The file will recreate itself next time your iPhone checks for mail.
Except this time the "new mail" icon in the taskbar should display only when you
actually have new mail.
