In addition to copying the new snort.conf into place, we need to copy
gen-msg.map as well:

2.9.5.5 was released on 9/16.
Rules were available on 9/17:
http://www.snort.org/vrt/docs/ruleset_changelogs/changes-2013-09-17.html

Should release package on or after 10/17.

Hi Doug,

Is it possible this issue isn't solved in 2.9.5.5-0ubuntu0securityonion1?

I couldn't get the gen-msg.map file to be updated on my installation here.

Example:

root@sauron:/usr/share/doc/snort# ls -l /etc/nsm/rules/*.map
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3296734 Jan 24 12:33 /etc/nsm/rules/gen-msg.map
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5701115 Jan 28 11:00 /etc/nsm/rules/sid-msg.map

Cheers,

Cyrille

Hi Cyrille,

Looks like your gen-msg.map file was updated as of Jan 24?

Also note that we recently released Snort 2.9.5.6:

This issue is closed, so if you need further help, please send a detailed email
