OpenJDK 7 for OS X LionMac running OS X Lion received support from Apple to have Java 1.6 installed (either Developer Preview version or Software update) but nothing seems to be on the agenda regarding 1.7 except that responsibility has been transferred to Oracle. The goal of this project is to deliver to Java developers and / or enthusiast users with OpenJDK 7 compatible with their system. See How To Install Wiki page for more information on how to install it and prerequisite. Main difference with other buildsThe main difference with the binary available at http://jdk7.java.net/macportpreview/ is that users do not have to worry about creating an install directory for their Java Development Kit. This is a true advantage as every user can have this release of OpenJDK install in a glimpse (less than 60 sec) without the hassles of creating a directory in a system area using Terminal.
