I didn't actually try this, but hyperdrive is only researchable once I'm at
commander rank. However, I need to "catch" some trading ships before that point
which move at speed 8 at least. "Catching" a fleet moving not slower than
oneself almost never works.
So, I suggest to reduce speed only to, say, 10, or so that all necessary ships
can be caught and to reduce the points this trait grants in exchange. Thus this
trait can be used in the campaign as well.
After all, someone could be caught by this and get pissed off by needing to
restart the whole thing.

Thanks, I never thought of this before. I'll make the traders catchable.

I've modified the campaign script to slow down the traders until you research
HyperDrive 1.

While we're at it, the stolen prototype has speed 14 so it can't be caught as
well.

The virus carriers are also impossible to destroy with speed 6.
