Can't compile "mode" function on GCC 4.0, which is needed for Mac UB.  It's really a bug in GCC 4.0, which is fixed in 4.2, but need to work around it.  4.0 seems to not understand reverse iterators, comparison functions cause compile errors.

Changed ordering of items in map so that forward iterator could be used instead.
