Build philosophy of starting from content first
Updated Sep 8, 2010 by jamespatrickgibson

The Approach

The idea that I want to try with this build phase: is to build the site from content out, get the basic functionalities of the site working (sort of like a live wireframe), create layout structures, apply styling and finally add php functionality for WordPress.

Process in order of importance

  • Create major site UIs as basic HTML with Blueprint basic classes.
  • Test major section UIs
  • Move on to create header and footer navigation, once major site UIs have been defined.
  • Add JS interactivity via jQuery
  • Create layout structures using BOKS
  • Style basic typography and linkage
  • Style modules & backgrounds
  • Add details using photoshop (grayscale transparent PNGs only asset allowed.)

What's the point?

This process will prove to be a great case study in the difficulties involved with designing and building a site using a very non traditional, sort of agile method. It's a process that many of us would like to incorporate into our professional projects, and it would be better to have the opportunity to experiment and test here, where the risks are low.
