A standard LICENSE file should be added in the root directory. Also, some files created by other authors are included. If the entire download package is meant to be FLOSS all the contents needs to be compatible with the chosen license. Thank you!

I was considering packaging your software for Debian and Ubuntu, unfortunately if it contains any file that is not FLOSS-compatible - like the Adobe's one - the entire package cannot be distributed.

@3: Just delete that file. Distribution of that file *is* allowed, but if it doesn't fit Debian's requirements, Marave works just as well without it.

Regardless of the Debian's (and other distro's) policies, the license of the sound files is being violated: http://www.partnersinrhyme.com/pirsounds/WEB_DESIGN_SOUNDS_WAV/BUTTONS.shtml These Button sound effects are offered for free royalty free use in your commercial multimedia project or as background sounds on your website. Partners In Rhyme retains all copyrights, please do not resell in a sound collection or make available for download on a website.

No, it isn't I have asked for permission from them and got it. The data files are not GPL, but distribution of them along with marave is permitted, as mentioned in the README, they are included with permission. Here is my exchange with Mark Lewis from Partners in Rhyme: I asked: > Question: A question about the free click sounds. I am working on a > free software project called Marave > (<URL:http://marave.googlecode.com>http://marave.googlecode.com and it > has a feature where the user gets audible feedback for keys. I was > wondering if it was possible to use your royalty free click sounds? > Because of the way the project works they would be available for > download as part of the source code, and would be installed as .wav > files in the application\'s folder. Thanks in advance for your answer. He answered: > Yes, that would be fine. As long as it just the click sounds then you have > our permission to use them in you software. It's really annoying when someone tells you you are violating a license without first *asking* if you are in fact breaking it. I take licensing very seriously. If Debian's policies don't allow their distribution of such files, feel free not to package them, Marave will work just as well without them. |
