open-cycle based maps #206
Comments
From jjbross@gmail.com on December 01, 2011 04:19:36 The next release will offer the possibility to create custom map styles. You can easily describe your own map styles via a set of rendering rules in an XML document. Rendering properties will also be configurable dynamically at runtime. We will provide a default rendering style based on the Osmarender theme. If you like, you can then create an open-cycle map theme. But please be patient for the next release, hopefully in a few weeks. Status: Accepted |

From Bikingo4...@googlemail.com on January 21, 2012 12:20:54 Would it be possible that you offer an OpenCycleMap of the Netherlands and Germany for download? That would be awesome and many biking fans would be enthusiastic :). |
From thilo.mu...@gmail.com on January 22, 2012 03:33:45 This sounds like a misunderstanding. Let me explain the situation: What you download as a "germany.map" file is only the (highly compressed) vector data, that has been converted from an OpenStreetMap PBF file to our own format with the help of the map-writer tool. How this data is displayed on your devices, depends on the currently selected render theme. In version 0.2.4 and before there was no option to configure or change that at runtime. In the upcoming 0.3.0 release there will be a new API which allows you to define a custom render theme via a simple XML file. We have not yet developed a render theme which imitates the OpenCycleMap style, however if there is a need for it we will probably do it sooner or later. It might also be the case that somebody else creates such a render theme file and publishes it somewhere on the Internet so that you can simply reuse it. |
From Bikingo4...@googlemail.com on January 22, 2012 05:58:18 Dear Thilo, thanks for your detailed answer. I think I began to understand the system of OSM. You mean, that all those cycle routes are included within the full vector maps but a special xml file is needed to display them. With 0.3 it would be possible to extract these data and display them. That sounds great! Does this new approach need an update of OruxMaps as well? Or would this function be available with the publication of your 0.3.0 version without an Orux-update? Finally best wishes for you and your team for doing this fabulous work :). If someony would write a OCM.xml or something like that, a dream would come true for many cyclists :D. Or is there a manual for these steps? |

What steps will reproduce the problem? 1.download files from http://download.mapsforge.org/ What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I worked with open-cycle maps in bitmap format. It seems to be much more usefull for outdoor navigation. Is there a plan to generate open-cycle based maps in mapsforge format? Would be great! What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? Latest orux maps on android 2.2.3 (LG P 350) Please provide any additional information below. Open-cycle maps as mapsforge data would blame any professionals like garmin etc.
Thanks a lot - Thomas
