howto blog with mailog
howto, manual, userdocumentation
Updated Apr 23, 2009 by nekapu...@gmail.com

how the email gets a blog post

send to youremail+post@gmail.com

(note the +post at the end of the username!).

  • email subject = post title (alphanumerics and spaces only for now)
  • message = post content (here you can use markdown)
  • sender = post author
  • recieve-time = post-date

using images

attach an image to your email. use the image's filename in a normal markdown link.

for example: you attached the file "python.png", use this markdown to show the picture in a post:

 [Picture of a Python](python.png)

when mailog has processed the email it will mark it as "seen".

advanced

email subject

the email subject gets the post's title. because of various reasons the title isn't allowed to have _ or any non-ASCII characters in it. so to be safe, only use A-Z and 0-9.

markdown, formating options

i actually use the python-markdown2 parser, which supports a couple of enhancements to the basic syntax descriped by those links. check the markdown2 homepage for more infos.
