ABSTRACT

J2ME and Bluetooth technologies are two of the most exciting offerings in the wireless industry today. Imagine being able to use your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone to operate your laptop or PC, lock and unlock your car, and control your TV, VCR, DVD player and other wireless devices such as PDAs, IPods or Mp3 Players. Bluetooth and Java are two new and promising technologies for such great success in wireless network programming to insure remote communication between these various devices that incorporate these technologies.
In order to make this Bluetooth remote control available to users, developers now need to be able to write Bluetooth applications that customize these devices, and deploy them in a way that lets users download them, to a cell phone for example. Bluetooth and J2ME can work together to achieve this unified vision. Bluetooth allows devices to communicate wirelessly and J2ME to write custom applications and deploy them on mobile devices.
This mobile java Bluetooth remote control system is a java application with a client and server sides that insure the use of Bluetooth-enabled and java embedded mobile phone to remotely control the normal use of the PC with a scope of controlling the flow of PowerPoint slides and managing the playlist in windows media player. The application is developed on basis of J2ME technology implementing Java APIs for Bluetooth wireless technology and using Bluetooth for communication channel. The wireless devices that test the implementation is an N95 Nokia Smartphone and a laptop PC both supporting Bluetooth and J2ME technology.
