I have regained access to the website (liftmod.org). It appears kezeali has had ftp login information the whole time. Pretty sure we have the domain until march or so, and kezeali said he was probably going to renew it because it would give him a discount on some of his other websites. So we're probably going to have it for quite a while still. This really is for anyone who wants to make the site. I'll ftp upload it when you make it. Just inform me by saying so in this thread.

svn checkout http://lift-mod.googlecode.com/svn/site/ unless you checked out a folder to http://lift-mod.googlecode.com/svn/, after which an svn update will get it to you too. Make changes in there, commit them. Tell me if/when you have made these changes, and I'll upload ONLY THE FILES WITH CHANGES TO THEM. (I can check revision history to see said changes.)

Is there a preview or emulator I can run this on? I generally learn this kind of stuff nby tinkering, jiggerypokery, and trial/error. FING PROXY SETTINGS! *shakes fist*
Feb 12, 2010
yeah. just open index.html in a browser.
Feb 12, 2010
I'll check it out once the jet lag wears off.
Feb 16, 2010
Okay, despite a horrible connection, I've got everything updated and functioning fine. I don't really know what to edit it with, but the default program seems to be Microsoft Word. What exactly do you guys want done with the site? I can update it, tweak it, or completely redesign it depending on what you're looking for.
Feb 17, 2010
New website is up. I modified "index" (and had to bash my way through an ASSLOAD of code I didn't understand in the process.) in the main site folder and added "Sneek Peek".png and .jpgs in the images section; those are needed for link functionality. Tell me what you think! I should have alternate banners available soon.
Feb 17, 2010
Be sure to let me review this before making it live Cerebrate.
Feb 18, 2010
Hey Tink, when you're done reviewing the news update, you should consider posting it on ModDB (or getting someone else to do so). I've been getting some messages from the old gang asking about the movie and reminiscing about the good old times.
Feb 19, 2010
added a new team members flash thing, open index2 to see it. also as a note, we should consider replacing the vid on the right with something else, as alot of the info in it may give people the wrong idea and what not! was thinking we could replace it with a slideshow kinda thing of our media or something at somepoint? just a thought!
Feb 19, 2010
I kinda sorta want to do away with the old site, I haven't looked at it in a long time. I think that we can do better. Im gonna dust off dreamweaver and flash asap. When thats done Torchling can keep it updated like he did here. I can also give you ModDB abilities so you can update that aswell.
Feb 19, 2010
yeah, i agree, we could do alot better, perhaps we can work together on it with help from tech too? i have both dreamweaver and flash, and im not too shabby with flash!
Feb 19, 2010
I like to help! I don't know much about website design (though I can bull-head my way through HTML if I've got to), but I'd be happy to supply ideas, work on small things, or even just represent another creative viewpoint. Are you okay with us posting that small announcement on the ModDB page, Tink? I'd be happy to do it myself if you want. (Effing proxy settings and their double posting!)
Feb 26, 2010
So, have you had a chance to look over the update, tink? The sooner we let people know we're not dead, the more we'll accomplish with our announcement.
Feb 26, 2010
Sorry tech, Ive told everyone but you I think. Im currently finishing up my semester here at school and couldn't work on the site. I will try to have something for you guys on Saturday night, sound good?
Feb 27, 2010
So i messed around in photoshop for a bit and came up with this. The first pic is a mock up of the opening page, pretty simple stuff. ehh the second image is a mock up of the media page. The news page would just have the news post in the middle or something. Any thoughts? Currently I just have a pic on the opening page, but I think a trailer would go there as soon as its done, set to autoplay on load. Also for the media page I would use Lightbox.
Feb 28, 2010
looks cool as! definitly has potential! what do we have in mind for scaleing for different resolutions and what not? i know people that still use relativly small resolutions, but then my primary monitor is full 1080p, so how we gonna handle that?
Feb 28, 2010
News; sooner=better.
Feb 28, 2010
@Torchling If we uss a CSS template then the background will stay the same while the menues and the content scale to fit monitor size. im gonna attatch the file to this post btw mess with it if you like.
Feb 28, 2010
For funzies I just opened dream weaver for the first time since like last june I think. holy shit... I made the front page. It looked like it and stuff. but if some one had a small screen they would have to scroll to the left and up n stuff...I gotta re learn some CSS..
Feb 28, 2010
I know some CSS. I can't create elements from scratch, but I can edit/modify existing ones in real-time with firebug and port the changes over.
Feb 28, 2010
also, in my opinion i think the site should be lighter, its so dark atm, and i always imagined the Lift site as somewhat light, and upLIFTing ;) lol. just my 2 cents
Feb 28, 2010
Ditto to that; when I think "Lift", I think the glow of Trapar trails, the sunlight reflecting off clouds and oceans, and the clear blue sky on the other side of cloud layer...
Feb 28, 2010
Now I kind of want to make a night-themed map.
Mar 1, 2010
We could make a new issue, "Map Ideas" or "Map Design". I'd like to see that sky-only bisected cloud map I mentioned in the wiki as well.
Mar 2, 2010
i know some guys who do professional website design like for money ya dig? i will show them plinkotink's little mock-up and see what they think
Mar 5, 2010
I've had several site ideas recently; I just finished the first concept shop. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f249/Techercizer/LiftSiteConcept1.png
Mar 5, 2010
I'd also like to point to this site: http://www.dothack.com/gu/ for conceptual inspiration. It's got a very simple design that gets the job done and looks good.
Mar 5, 2010
Please do that Doug. And tech your idea seems a bit eccentric for what im looking for, lets keep it simple. It doesnt need to be mind blowing or anything, just simple and professional looking. Ive seen that site before (i love .hack) and thats a very complex site, what part of it was very simple?
Mar 5, 2010
It's just seven spheres, one for each main section, that you can switch between conveniently. Doesn't seem too convoluted to me.
Mar 6, 2010
From a development point of view its incredibly difficult, deep Flash stuff that I couldn't even begin to understand.
Mar 6, 2010
Mine would be much simpler. You'd just have four links, they would darken when you highlighted them, and the one for the page you're on would stay dark. Not too difficult if I'm not mistaken.
Mar 6, 2010
Ah, well if your talking about your design then no its not as difficult as the .hack page. Your idea is indeed too eccentric for what we need. If it were developed more, using flash and CSS, then it could be something worth doing, but it wont be because we cant do it. If we were to make it with our abilities, then it would come out looking bad, and half assed. So you see why its too eccentric for me?
Mar 6, 2010
What's so tough about it, though? It's a basic background (The hexagon and Image) with four-6 links (the area I've defined around the sides) that become highlighted upon selection or scroll-over. The only other thing on the page is the content of the hexagon.
Mar 6, 2010
Its not that its tough but that it doesnt look all that appealing right now. If we were to copy that pic you made perfectly then it would look like half of an idea, and because of this, look bad. If it were more developed using flash or something then it could get cool, but when you try to make eccentric things without putting the time and difficulty into it, you get a poor quality product.
Mar 6, 2010
I'll take your word on it.
Mar 26, 2010
Do we have any progress or updates on this?
Apr 2, 2010
Really tink, you couldn't have posted here and discussed the decision to release more information with the whole team? I'm assuming you again went around and told everyone but me what you were doing, but even so: we only get to come back once, we should try and do a damn good job of it. I'm glad we're making an "alive" announcement, but I don't like being kept in the dark, whether or not everyone else was in on it.
Apr 2, 2010
*Clears throat* We are going live on the 10th (saturday)
Apr 2, 2010
We've already got new information and whatnot on the site, so I assume we're not going for a minimalistic/mysterious approach. What announcement were you thinking of making? Do we have something put together already? I've been making some banners for our return based off of Episode 26, which I think is a very good symbol for our update, as we're coming back after everyone thought we'd vanished. Most of our fans will probably get and appreciate the symbolism, even if it's just subconsciously.
Apr 2, 2010
We will be releasing a trailer tuned to the Story writer track we made. Along with the confirmation that we are indeed alive. thats a bout it!

Can I see the trailer? I'm not going to leak it or anything, but we've still got a week available to fine tune it.
Apr 2, 2010
You can see it as soon as its done...and to get it done i must first start it! bwagagagaga
Apr 2, 2010
If you haven't started it yet, maybe you'd be willing to discuss creative direction and nuances with us? By the way, we NEED to have this POLISHED and DONE on Saturday. After going underground for several months, we'll look really bad if we announce an update and then don't keep it.

Hmm I dont know when i made this, but how does this feel? I found it in my photobucket. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f310/Plinkotink/wup.jpg
Apr 8, 2010
No offense, but it looks a bit pedestrian.
Apr 8, 2010
looks like shit and you should never try site design ever again. i am talking to my web developer friend will see what he thinks about maybe helping with a design.
Apr 8, 2010
if your friend is gonna help us then tell them to hurry the dicks up.

Our current website is sitting around out of date, and we have jack news of developments. We need to either run the current website while we work on the new one, or switch quite soon. Now that we're out in the PR open, a good website will go miles for increasing our credibility and encouraging fan activity on our pages.
Jun 10, 2010
Thank you techercizer, we now have a firm grasp of the obvious.
Jun 10, 2010
Great, so now that we're all on the same page, let's start moving forward. If we don't have a new website going live soon, then we need to mirror our latest upcoming update to the current site when we make it. |
