First ... thanks! I've been looking for something like this for quite a while.

Any chance you might include avi as a format?

avi is not a video encoding format. It is a container format (that is usually used
to containing formats like wmv, or divx). It's pretty old and not really supported
well on the mac (the mac uses .mov for most of those formats). mp4 has pretty much
superceded avi for anything modern.

So I don't see a good reason to include it as a default format for anything.

That said, both mencoder and ffmpeg will happily create avi-container files. as an
easy example, select divx-3 as your format, and then go to advanced. Change filename
extension to .avi, and change the 'encoder other options' part where it says mov to
avi. That should create an avi container with divx-3 as the video format, mp3 as the
audio format. (assuming that's a legal avi, then there you go).
Play around, find something that works, and save it as a custom format.

Anyways, marking this as 'wontfix' since that kind of stuff is up to you to create...
