Issue 130: Feature Request: Download next show while processing current show
Reported by te7...@voicenet.com, Oct 10, 2009
What Version of iTiVo?
TiVo HD

What Version of MacOS X?
10.6.1

What download format did you select?
Elgato Turbo 264

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.
2.
3.

Please provide any additional information below.
The download speed from my TiVo is very slow (< 1.5MB/sec), and so I would like to be able to
download the next show in my Queue while the current show is being transcoded. Pipelining the
work will dramatically reduce my processing time.

I noticed this, too. In my first few tests the show was written to /tmp, then encoded,
then copied to the specified destination (a different disk, in my case). When I turned off
subtitles, this stopped happening. Now it seems to be encoding directly from the
network stream. My mini can't encode as fast as it can download anyway (sad, I know,
given how slow TiVos download), but at least now I'm not waiting for the download.

I see now in formats.plist that downloading first is required by some encoders
(HandBrake).

So, there are some cases where pipelining is needed even if you aren't extracting
subtitle info.
