I also have this problem, but I am using version 1.7.6 under 10.6.3.

I clean installed my Mac OS (for other reasons) and when I reinstalled this was fixed.

@jasonjaknapp Did you change the location of your home folder when you reinstalled? Did you initially have it in a nonstandard location?

I don't think so @jerry.keybl. I just let it install in the default location both times. Not sure why it wasn't working the first time.

I too have this same issue. I have tried multiple versions and am now using the beta version 1.7.7b3 but still have the problem.

...and now after posting this comment, mine seems to be working. I did notice in the Console for the iTivo.log it actually said "writing settings" this time when quitting.

Are you still seeing this problem?

I have had it happen a couple times in the last few days. But it's inconsistent. I just restarted iTivo and it kept the settings fine. If I could export the settings somehow for safekeeping that would help a lot (is that possible?).

I wonder if it could have anything to do with that I created a custom format by modifying the bitrate?

I should have noted I'm using 1.7.7b3 (which solved the lost names problem which is great!)

Yes, that's possible. You can see your settings via 'defaults read com.iTiVo.iTiVo'. Is something messing with your defaults?

The custom format should be irrelevant.
