3.2 Play

'Play' is the quiz component of the application. The user is asked the following question " Where is country name/capital name located? ", after which he is tasked with 'pointing' it out on the virtual map.

The game can be played one of two ways, either finding countries or capitals (countries being considered the 'easy' difficulty and capitals the 'hard'). Furthermore, users can choose to play using the entire world, or focusing on an individual continent. For a randomized experience, the player can also 'Quick-play', where one of all possible combinations of the previously mentioned choices is randomly selected.

The game is composed of three stages, 'easy' 'medium' and 'hard'. Countries/capitals are categorized in these three stages, using criteria such as size, popularity and general knowledge (choices made are based on designer preferences). In each stage, the player is tasked with finding the location of 10 countries/capitals from each category. The answer is recognized as either correct (success) or not (fail). To progress to the following stage, the user must have a success rate of 5/10 correct answers minimum. If the hard stage is successfully completed, the player can continue answering questions in an open-ended fashion, with questions being randomly picked from any category. The iGeo game finishes when the player fails to complete one of the three initial stages, or when the player fails a total of 5 questions in the open-ended stage.

Each successful answer is worth 1 point, contributing to an overall score, which is recorded in an high-score table showing a "Top 10".
