Gtar

A tool for generating network traffic and inferencing packet distributions.

Introduction

This project was initiated in the Universidade de Brasília to address some problems with older traffic generators available on the free software community.

The program generates IP traffic with many statistical distributions at choice, and has a inference module to classify incoming traffic as well.

Features

  • Generates statistical parameterized traffic on remote machines.
  • Infers the traffic distribution from logged data.
  • Sincronizes remote machines clocks with custom precision.

Documentation

The documentation is divided in 2 parts, the theory used to model the program, and the developer notes with implementation details

Acknowledgments

Some parts of the code come from other projects, although the libraries were twisted to our needs and resemble very little of the original code, we would gladly show our acknowlegment for other people's work.

Here is a list of projects we used or learnd from.
