For many in scientific python community to use App engine, we need Scipy, Scikit and Pandas in App Engine.

Hi.
It is really important and progressive that in suppporting the use of Python, that relevant tools that are revolutionising the the Python world are included as third party libraries.
Please do host it up. We need PANDAS on the app engine

I agree that Scipy, Scikit and Pandas would be very useful in the App Engine.
k....@gmail.com <k....@gmail.com> #5
Yes, scipy and pandas would be great. I'm a big fan of App Engine but had to switch to a new platform for my current project.
[Deleted User] <[Deleted User]> #6
hello - chiming in that pandas support in appengine would be wonderful.
yo...@gmail.com <yo...@gmail.com> #7
+1 on more scientific computing support in app engine.
ma...@gmail.com <ma...@gmail.com> #8
+1 for NumPy, SciPy, Pandas and Scikit
kr...@gmail.com <kr...@gmail.com> #9
Yes. The data analysis package PANDAS and machine learning package sklearn (aka scikits.learn) would be *hugely* beneficial. At the moment, I am writing stripped-down versions of their classes but theirs are much faster / safer / more reusable.
a....@gmail.com <a....@gmail.com> #10
It would be a real benefit having pandas integrated into appengine.
Thanks a lot.

+1 Voting for inclusion.
This is taking an immense amount of time to include - ticket has been open for over 10 months now!
Why cant custom .egg be bundeled with GAE?
This shouldnt be so much a challenge - youd think - with all the "computer science" talent google claims to have - creating a sandbox or profilers for application dependent on open source libraries is a must.

I've given up on this being added and deployed to Heroku instead - surprisingly easy to get up and running and conparitively flexible for a PaaS
lo...@gmail.com <lo...@gmail.com> #28
a lack of pandas (and to a lesser extent scipy and scikits) is the only reason i'm considering other paas options. Can we at least get a heads up on this status?
d....@gmail.com <d....@gmail.com> #29
yes, please, give us some news on this. If it's not going to happen any time soon, at least we know we have to implement plan B!
[Deleted User] <[Deleted User]> #30
Yes - this is the only reason for me not using GAE exclusively
[Deleted User] <[Deleted User]> #31
Yes, as a researcher I found Python libraries such as pandas and scipy very useful. GAE is great for efficient development of cloud applications, however since it doesn't support these scientific libraries its usage in serious scientific work is very limited.
ji...@chaj.com <ji...@chaj.com> #32
Unfortunately I've had to resort to using Heroku for this reason alone. I also like the fact that they enforce PIP based packaging.

With the new Managed VMs (https://developers.google.com/cloud/managed-vms ) it's possible to run any libraries you like on app engine backends, including pandas. Watch some of the sessions that were part of this event for more info: https://cloud.google.com/events/google-cloud-platform-live/ . (Videos of these sessions coming soon).
E.g., one of the demos used python-opencv.
Managed VMs are currently part of an Early Access Program.

mi...@gmail.com <mi...@gmail.com> #66
Guys, please stop commenting "add pandas". This issue has been marked as "wont fix" because there's a way to get Pandas running on App Engine using the Managed VMs, as stated in many comments above. The documentation for Managed VMs states clearly how to configure them and get hem up and running. Once you've done that, you just need to install pandas into the container. https://cloud.google.com/appengine/docs/managed-vms/

I'm sure you're tired of hearing the calls for Pandas, but "run in a Managed VM" isn't always a viable option, and certainly the additional engineering and deployment overhead doesn't always make it a worthwhile change.

The second generation of App Engine (Python 3.7) allows installing any arbitrary Python library (including Pandas). It always depends on the use case, but if you are using first generation (Python 2.7) and you want to use Pandas, then you can create "service"/app in second gen. runtime and do Pandas stuff there. Last week most instance types for second gen (not first) got double amount of RAM, so extra reason to start using them. Again, it always depends on the use case.
This request is from 2013 and relates to the first gen. In my opinion (I'm not from Google) they won't do any changes to the first gen. runtime, so this issue could be closed :)
