Original issue 184 created by punningclan on 2012-06-07T17:01:31.000Z:

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Add my email in the authentictor with the barcode.
  2. Unverify all computers
  3. Use the auth-code provided by the IPhone authenticator application to try and login to gmail on my computer.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I should be able to login to gmail however it fails and I have to use the one sent to my phone. The auth code provided by the IPhone app is always wrong,

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
IPhone Google Authenticator version 1.1.4.757

Please provide any additional information below.
I initiated this test in order to discover why another application (glbse.com) fails with auth-code incorrect %100 of the time. I've been on tech support with them for about a week with no luck. This test seems to prove that the auth-code provided by the IPhone google authenticator application is actually broken and not glbse.com. How can I get you to text me an auth-code for glbse.com?

Are you still having troubles accessing your Google account with Authenticator? Note that you can only have one primary code-generation mechanism active at a time--- if your settings are configured to send you codes by SMS, it means that the server is not expecting codes from Authenticator, so they are not expected to work.

If you do have the app configured as your primary code-generation mechanism but the server is not accepting codes, it may be that your device's clock is out of sync with the server, and you should check to make sure that the time, date, and time zone settings are correct. (This could also explain the problem with glbse.com if they are also using time-based codes.)

Unless glbse.com is configured to use your Google account, I'm afraid there's not much we can do to help--- Google can only send codes by SMS when folks are authenticating to their Google account.

I have the same problem. I downloaded the authenticator app into my iPhone and it has never provided a code that works. Can anyone tell me why? The Time Zone is not an issue because it is the same in the computer and the iPhone. Only difference is that the iPhone has it set to automatic and it says "New York" which is EST. I am physically in Miami, which is also EST. This would be great if it actually worked.

If the local time (the one you see at the top of the phone) is correct and the timezone is correct too, then the most likely cause is that the secret key in the Authenticator is wrong (not the same as registered at Google for your account). This could happen if another Authenticator app/device was registered for your account after you scanned/entered the key on your phone.

To fix the issue, go to https://accounts.google.com on a desktop/tablet, go to Security -> 2-step verification (Edit) -> click Remove/Replace in the "Mobile application" row, scan the QR code using Google Authenticator on your phone and follow the rest of the instructions. After scanning the QR code, you'll be prompted (by the web page) to enter a verification code generated by your phone and will check if the code is correct. Thus, you'll get early feedback.

I have no idea to what this refers. What kind of bs is google doing. I have an iPhone and installed the IOS designed "Google Authenticator." The pages I have been reading thru are all but gibberish for anyone who is not a programmer or developer.
