Issue 350: Improve auto complete textbox UI
Status:  Accepted
Owner: ----
Reported by german.otero@gmail.com, Dec 2, 2009
Change the autocomplete textboxes.
Some ideas could be
* Add an ajax icon when is looking for the options
* Improve the search, with like and similar words

* remove them with simple selectors (don't like)

Some times, you i don't remember how a project name is written or a group,
and it's a pain go back, look for the name, do copy paste... that kind of
things.. If the network is not very fast (inet conection) you found yoursef
e with waiting for the autocomplete, and it isn't going to appear.

Thanks.

Sorry, my MySQL inquiry was directed at pkufranky. I think I've
seen the behavior he is reporting on a MySQL installation, where
it works fine on PostgreSQL. It seems MySQL is sorting slightly
differently than Postgres or H2 does, causing completion to only
trigger at word boundaries.

I just wanted to confirm that I'm seeing the completion only on word boundaries with a MySQL installation and gerrit 2.1.5. Previously I had been using the H2 db and the auto-complete triggered on each character as expected.

The issue with MySQL only completing on word boundaries still occurs in 2.2.2.1

I think this is better with 2.3.

Which database are you using? We are using MySQL on 2.3 and still have the same word boundary issue.

Completion still works on word boundaries only in Gerrit 2.7 with mysql.

We are working a lot with people in India and remembering all those 15 to 20 character names correctly is really a hard task, where Gerrit should provide better user support.

This might be improved in 2.12 onwards with the switch to using Lucene for at least reviewer suggestions.
