What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Perform any action that should send off email notifications

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Following upgrade to 2.4 emails seem to be being sent sporadically on our install. About half of all emails seem to be being received where email functionality was fully functioning before. I doubt this is a problem with our setup, as email previously worked OK and we are still receiving some emails. We have checked the obvious things like SPAM filtering. There seems to be no pattern to which emails are or are not sent. Maybe this is related to the asynchronous email changes? Can I sensibly debug this? Can I set a log level somewhere? No failures show up in error_log. Thanks!
