| Issue 3183: | Effect of most preferences is not obvious to new users | |
| 2 people starred this issue and may be notified of changes. | Back to list |
Affected Version: 2.10-1581-g60890e2 What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Visit https://gerrit-review.googlesource.com/#/settings/preferences 2. Try to decide what values to use for "Show Relative Dates In Changes Table", "Show Change Sizes As Colored Bars", "Show Change Number In Changes Table", and "Mute Common Path Prefixes In File List". What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I'd expect the meaning of these to be obvious, to see a link to documentation explaining what effect they have, or (even better) to see a live preview of their effect when clicking them. The actual effect is less clear. Which changes table are these talking about? Are change sizes the size of an entire change or the size of a diff to a single file? What is shown if I choose not to use colored bars, if anything? Please provide any additional information below. Context is that the default for 'show change sizes as colored bars' flipped to false. I was looking for a way to turn it back on.

Ah, I may have manually set the old setting to false.

I think on Google servers the default was set to false because Googlers didn't like this feature. The user guide added by [1] adds a brief description for all user preferences, but I guess this can be improved further. [1] https://gerrit-review.googlesource.com/67480 |
