Reported by sodil...@gmail.com, Jun 13, 2011
Affected Version:
2.2.1

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.ssh -p 29418 mobile.domain.com gerrit create-project --name errCondition
2.git clone ssh://scott@mobile.domain.com:29418/errCondition

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected:
Cloning into xyzDriver...
warning: You appear to have cloned an empty repository.

Seen:
Cloning into errCondition...
warning: remote HEAD refers to nonexistent ref, unable to checkout.

Please provide any additional information below.

When using 2.1.7.2, the create and subsequent pull work correctly.

The clone should work, but issued a different error message than expected. This is a bug in the C client triggered by a change in the way Gerrit initialized the project.

I've talked with Junio Hamano about this, and I can't fix it in Gerrit. The C client will need to issue better error messages on these initially (now partially) empty repositories.

Thanks for the quick response. At least it will show up when someone searches for it now. I'm guessing the workaround is to create your own git repo and import it manually?

The repository works fine. You are just getting a different message from the client than you got before. You don't need a workaround.

To get rid of the warning, use the flag --no-checkout to git clone
