Basic instructions on how to use GeoLaunch

Introduction

Geo-aware applications meet the Web!

How To

The idea is simple. GeoLaunch gets the device's location and opens a Safari in a URL where the latitude and longitude are in the Get parameters. For example for GeoPedia is will open @"http://mazinger.cs.yale.edu/yahoolocal/search.php?lat=%f&long=%f&r=%d" with the corresponding latitude and longitude. Get the code from the svn rep.

For now, you need to modify the URL and re-compile. Also remember to make the following changes in the app:

  • Copy your binary (GeoLaunch) into the .app directory
  • Edit Info.plist in the GeoLunch.app directory and change the fields CFBundleExecutable, CFBundleIdentifier, CFBundleInfoDictionaryVersion and CFBundleName
  • Make your own icon icon.png and splash Default.png
  • Rename the .app directory

In the near future you will not need to recompile since the URL will sit in a configuration file.

I know this instructions are sketchy at best, but they will improve over time.

The project also includes LocLib, a library to get your geo-location based on cell phone towers. This may be of independent use.
