Notice that the inverse background is highlighting after 5pm even though the Midnight-Midnight background event is covering that area.

Yeah, my assumption when coding was that none of the inverse-background events would ever intersect. I will reconsider this assumption. Thanks

Ah, I just discovered this bug as well. I've made a quick fix which seems to work. However, I've not thought about it/tested it very thoroughly, so I won't submit it as a pull request right now. Attached is a patch file; feel free to use it.
