FAR Colony (First Autonomous Remote Colony) is a game of exploration and space colonization being held in the 23th century. It has 2 phases: a Colonization Phase, where the player must make the colony viable in 365 days max, and a Sandbox Play.
The current released version is Alpha 7 [0.6.1] and the current dev (not released) version is Alpha 8/9 and 10 [0.6.2/0.6.3 and 0.6.4]
THIS PROJECT IS IN ALPHA STAGE SO NOT FULLY PLAYABLE YET
Alpha 8/9/10 [0.6.2/0.6.3/0.6.4] will be released on Dec 29-31 / 2014
HERE ARE THE TWO VIDEOS OF THE 0.5/0.5.1
The game is in two phases:
in the first one, called the Colonization Phase, the player must establish a new colony on a pre-determined planet and has 365 standard days to make the colony viable.
in the second one, the game is purely sandbox, and the player can develop his/her colony as he/she likes. AI and game/historical events will set many goals and problems to manage.
For now, the game is still in Alpha version and not fully playable, but it's usable since some parts of the game system are already implemented like:
a complete planetary system generator, used as a thrid party tool, not a in-game one.
the colonization phase system (which manage the first part of the game)
a mission system for the space units, it manage in real time the missions that are assigned to each space unit (spacecrafts and space-based infrastructures). The currently implemented missions are:
Interplanetary Mission: allow to move a space unit between two orbital objects located in a same planetary system. The calculations for this mission are based on real world space navigation calculations.
Colonization Mission: allow any space unit which have a colonization capability to generate a new settlement or expand an existing one
the Colony Simulation Model which manage each colony's data and events
an embedded help system (a bit like the civilopedia from the game Civilization IV)
a Socio-Political Matrix including:
42 policies and memes
policies management with enforcement rules
memes management with belief levels and spreading rules
an influence matrix between the memes and policies
an unified interface for macromanagement purposes including:
a faction details panel
a socio-political matrix panel
a policy enforcement panel
a production system including:
infrastructure conversion/assembling/building w/ Construction Workforce management
colony's energy balance rule
products extraction/refining/manufacturing
reserves (oxygen, water, food) consumption including the outcomes if the production is overloaded and/or there's reserve shortage
a planetary survey system which include for now only the resource survey subsytem (2 other will come in the future)
