What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Highlight a couple of node titles

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: The tree structure stays the same
Actual: The tree collapses

I found an example of this in the dynatree Live Examples (http://wwwendt.de/tech/dynatree/doc/samples.html):
1. Click the Programming API link in the tree on the left.
2. Expand the Advanced Examples folder in the tree
3. Try to highlight the text from item5.1 to Sub-item 5.2
In IE, the tree collapses. The tree does not collapse other browsers.

What version of the dynatree and jQuery are you using?
dynatree: 1.2.1
jQuery: 1.8

On what operating system and browser?
Windows 7, IE7, IE8, IE9

What DOCTYPE declaration are you using?
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

As of 2014 Dynatree is feature frozen.
Please have a look at Fancytree (sequel of DynaTree 1.x): chances are good that the problem was resolved / the requested featuer is already implemented.
Please open a new issue there otherwise:
