Require Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers who could spare their time (not more than 3 hours a week) who are proficient in C to help us with the programming part. If you are interested please join the project and leave me a message.

Objective of the Project

The aim of this project is to develop a simple droplet evaporation and combustion model in convective and non-convective environments intended for advanced engineering applications like IC Engine combustion modelling, gas turbine combustion modelling. This project is divided into the following stages.

All coding will be done in C for its amazing speed and capability of optimization.

Stage 1 - The Basic Skeleton

Development of droplet evaporation and combustion code for hydrocarbon fuels and validating the output against the results published in literature. The project at present is advancing in Stage 1. This again is divided into the following:

Stage 1.1

Acquiring the temperature dependent thermo-physical properties of hydrocarbons and developing a database for these properties. Stage 1.1 is considered completed when the properties of straight chain hydrocarbons from C6 to C20 are aggregated successfully.

Stage 1.2

Selection of a suitable Nusselt number correlation for convective flow conditions.

Stage 1.3

Selection of a suitable algorithm for dealing with steady-state processes.

Stage 2 - Flesh

Extending the code for alcohols and methyl esters.

Stage 3 - Life Like

Include the effect of limited thermal conductivity and diffusion. Possibly attempt for an effective-thermal conductivity model.

Stage 4 - Real Deal

Mathematically model the CI engine combustion using the evaporation and combustion code developed previously and validate it with published literature. This might as well be developed as a new project.
