1. Introduction

This is a quick introduction to the game environment and concepts of Dominia Online.

1.1 The game

A Dominia Online game is an environment in which Dominia players can interact and play card duels. There are no limits to the duration of a game in time, but it is assumed that a game can be played over the course of several months. The game itself does not stop at any time; even when there are no players connected, the computer-generated characters should keep playing. Players can connect to the server when they want to play and load their profile. Player profiles and statistics are kept on the server.

2. The Map

Each Dominia Online game has an associated map. A map consists of a 2-dimensional array of tiles.

2.1 Tiles

A tile is the basic building block of maps. Each tile on a map is made of a particular terrain

3. The Dominia World

3.1 Money

Goods and services in the Dominia world are bought and sold using three types of currencies: gold coins, silver coins, and copper coins. A gold coin is worth 10 silver coins, and a silver coin is worth 100 copper coins.

There are no fixed prices for items and services in the game. Instead, there is a base value with fluctuations depending on various game parameters, such as scarcity of the resource, distance from other villages, etc.

In some situations, players can find items which have an associated value. This value is entirely dependent on the item.

3.2 Cities

A city is a location where several services are available to players.

3.2.1 Auction Houses

An Auction House is a location within a city where cards can be bought or sold, either at fixed prices or by bidding.

Players can place one or more cards at the auction house for sale. When doing so, the player can choose whether to sell at a fixed price, or to sell as a regular auction, in which case he can select a minimum bid price and a time period for the auction. Once an auction has ended, a message is sent to the player.

3.2.2 Post Office

When a player goes to the Post Office, he can check incoming messages and write messages to other players.

3.2.3 General Store

At the General Store, players can buy miscellaneous items such as:

  • deck boxes
  • money purses
  • healing potions

3.3 Portals

A portal is a special location on the map which allows a planeswalker to travel from one plane to the next.

3.4 Dungeons

3.5 Castles

Castles are locations where tournaments are held on a periodic basis. Whenever a tournament is scheduled to happen, it is announced throughout the realm so players can plan ahead to show up at the right time. A tournament is an event fixed in real time, and cannot be paused. If a player cannot end the tournament, he is forced to forfeit.

4. Players

When a user wants to join a game, he must first create a new player profile on the server on which the game is running. This player profile contains all the information about the planeswalker that will be the user's avatar in that particular game.

4.1 Player Attributes

Each player has a set of attributes and limitations, some of which can be overcome through the use of items, others which can be upgraded through successful duels or spells.

4.1.1 Maximum/Current Health

Each player has two statistics associated with his health. The Maximum Health tells the maximum number of life points the player can have, and the Current Health keeps track of the current number of life points the player has. Life points can be lost and gained through several means (e.g.: duels, life potions). A player starts with both Maximum and Current Health at 10.

4.1.2 Walking Speed

A player starts with a walking speed of 10.

4.2 Player Abilities

4.2.1 Flight

A player with the Flight ability can move faster over the map by avoiding obstacles. The player's regular walking speed is increased by 50%.

4.3 Familiars

A player can have one or more familiars following him during the game. Each familiar can provide special abilities or tricks.

4.3.1 Imps

5. Joining a game

When a player joins a game for the first time, he starts with the following items:

  • wooden deck box (capacity: 80 cards)
  • randomly selected basic 60-card deck
  • a basic cloth robe with pockets which can hold up to 20 coins
  • 2 silver coins
