This is annoying, I've only created a google account to purchase one app, I don't
dare purchase any more as I'm not sure which account owns my purchases, or even if I
can reinstall after an upgrade/factory data wipe.
Google apps accounts need to *be* google accounts (at the discression of the apps
domain admin), if a user has both, they should get the option to merge.

I just got a samsung galaxy s (eclair 2.1)
it is awesome!!
though like the OP i have 2 paid gafyd (.net = personal, .com = company/business - same domainexample.net & example.com ) and I have a std google account using my personal .net address and I can't buy apps :(
this is one really huge area where Google has messed up - somehow they need to make gafyd accounts exactly like a std google account and have access to everything that a std google account has. should make it that if the domain is registered as a gafyd then std google accounts can't be created...
it is probably a big deal to fix this situation - however the sooner it is done the better for everyone affected....

Priority needs to be bumped on this bug. As it's causing users headaches *and* costing the android store money it needs to be fixed ASAP.

Also running a Galaxy S - Vibrant on Eclaire, and this is very frustrating.
I spent days thinking I had somehow messed up my phone...
It came up I did a factory reset because I couldn't change my primary account (also very annoying, and a seemingly HUGE oversight and marring of the user-experience.
Google are running consumer platform here in direct competition with the extremely tight apple-ux as it stands.. It's amazing that such a solid platform, that genuinely delivers should have such MASSIVE oversights... no one wants to spend a weekend setting up their phone, to then HAVE to hard reset, and then have something so basic break...

well guess what! google has just started rolling out gafyd account is a proper google account :)
I filled in a form somewhere and have converted my gafyd account into a full google account and deleted my google account with the same email (after exporting my reader subscriptions) - so i think google are sorting this situation out :)

!? Is there a URL or something for that? I have renamed my iGoogle account so I assume I would need to change it back to the same email address again for that to happen. Any problems with it so far? Did you Google Checkout move over too? (Don't want to lose my purchases)

Come on Google, this is an idiotic issue to have. Why not fix it? Clearly this is a bug and not an enhancement. I am sick of stupid work around to use and Android. At least the things on an iPhone actually work.

Did you have to wait to hear back from Google before converting your account?

BIG PROBLEM:
I recently changed over my long standing Google account (non-gmail) name@specialdomain.com - to a Google Apps account. Now I cannot download Apps on my phone and I cannot migrate my data from my old account to my Google Apps account. My only option is to transfer my information to a "NEW" email address - which I do not want to do as I am trying to consolidate. And I do not want to Reset my droid either to change my account! :(

The conversion workaround isn't a workaround for me since not all services can be converted (for example, picasa with paid storage). I need to sign in to both my Google account and Google apps account which use the same email address.

Since the conversion of Google Apps to the new system where it can be used as a proper login to Checkout (and all the other Google services) this now seems to work.
However.. There is a new problem.
If I sign into my phone with just my Apps account which is now converted, I will be able to buy new Apps, but because I haven't logged into my personal google account on the phone all my purchases under that account are no longer available!
There needs to be a way to move the purchases over from your personal account to your apps one now that its working properly.
Maybe this could be done as a one time thing for this specific instance as it will cause a lot of users problems.
It wouldnt be too bad if you could swap accounts in market!

I already commented on the 2322? Issue, I have had my desire HD for just over a week and it is very annoying not.being able to access paid apps. I have had my Google apps account for quite a while and used this to sign in on the market place and the fact that I can't pay for anything is a big miss by Google as I use checkout online with the same apps account to pay for things. Surely this needs some update for the marketplace app so that it recognises the apps account? Not sure what the difference OS between this issue and 2322 is but all I want is a service that works.

I went through the Google Apps transition with my account and am able to sign in to the market without any problems, I had to use the Google voice form to switch over my number/account and create a new Checkout account but everything has switched over including my paid market apps.
I would consider this issue resolved.

So when you go into your new Checkout account you can see your old purchases?
I completed the transition as well but all my purchases are still tied to my other plain @gmail.com account and NOT my Google Apps account. So I suspect (and I'm not going to just try it) that if I deleted my @gmail.com account (which was ONLY set up to support Checkout for Google Marketplace) that my purchased apps would go away somehow.

This does not work. I did the transition months ago and logged into checkout just fine from the browser but it does not work with marketplace. You get the same error about not having any accounts that are supported.

Have you changed your password? I changed mine and now checkout is suspended.
I have requested that my GAFYD checkout be re-instated several times after I changed my password, but it still hasn't been done months later!

Description
------------
HTC Desire - Telstra (AU)
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Kernel version 2.6.29-3cb3dfbf
Build number: 1.16.841.1.CL171554 release-keys
Software number: 1.16.841.1
Bug Description
---------------
When a user has both a Google account, and a Google Apps account (ie the
users mail domain is hosted by Google) and the user registers his/her
Google Apps account on the phone (for access to email, calendar etc) the
Market will not allow the user to log in to Market with their standard
Google account. (Invalid password error is returned, even though the
correct password is entered)
Steps to Reproduce Defect
-------------------------
1) Create a Google Apps (Google Apps For Your Domain) account and create a
primary email address (eg user@example.com with password1)
2) Create a standard Google account and use the email address created in
step #1 above (eg user@example.com with password2) as the primary email
address. Set up Google Checkout on this account.
3) Factory reset Android phone
4) During initial setup wizard enter the Google Apps account (eg
user@example.com with password1)
5) Start the Market app, and try to log on with the standard Google account
(eg ser@example.com with password2)
==> Invalid password error
Correct Behaviour
-----------------
User should be prompted to choose if the account details they are entering
needs to be authenticated as a Google account or a Google Apps account.
(This may be better done at an OS level rather than specifically for the
Market app.
Impact
------
The impact to affected users is very high, as it means they cannot purchase
paid apps from the Android store.
This scenario is very common as every Google Apps user also needs a
secondary Google account to access any services such as YouTube, Picasa,
Google Checkout, iGoogle etc etc
This defect appears to affect every version of Android Market, and every
Android device so is very widespread.
The Android Market does not provide any other alternatives to purchasing
apps (ie there is no way to purchase from the PC using a web browser to
work around this issue)
Workaround
----------
As this is a common issue, a workaround has been identified:
This workaround has certain limitations:
1) The user has to change their primary email address on their Google
account
2) Changing the primary email address can cause other services which use
Google accounts for authentication to fail (eg the user will be locked out
of their AppBrain account)
Notes
-----
This defect appears to be because Android has no option to specifiy if an
account is a standard Google account or a Google Apps account
This bug is similar to #2322, but that is logged as a feature request
rather than a defect, and is not currently being worked on)
Once the user has logged onto the Market app with a valid account (eg
Google Apps) it is not possible to change accounts without doing a hard
reset of the device.
